Attended the Genesee Valley Hunt Club races today -a nice day and some fun racing, lots of kids and every breed of dog imaginable but day was marred by the fall of Johnny Swish in the Martha Wadsworth maiden timber race who was vanned off with an uncertain fate. Corky Lemon also fell but got to his feet. Over the day 2 other horses fell but got up and appeared to be ok. Not sure about the jockeys… they did not share any info to the large crowd.

I even asked them on their website if they would maybe update at the season end regarding all the horses that have fallen and/or vanned off - I received ZERO response or acknowledgement regarding that question.
Not impressive in this day and age when horse racing is touting transparency.

Steward's Reports with details of injuries to horse and rider and any fatalities are available a few days after the races (with the exception of races at NYRA tracks, which are reported by Saratoga/BAQ along with the other flat races of the day). Yes I know, I follow their site closely. In years past, the stewards reports were a lot more transparent. The recent Shawan races are a great example. Multiple horses fell, the report says they fell, but no updates on the horses, just the jockeys.

Agree there should be more transparency on the reports of the horses , not just “ fell”. Hoping all the jockeys and other horses who fell are doing ok this morning .

There also was for the first time a side saddle flat race with horses ridden by young ladies who really sprinted and made an exciting finish at the end. Hope they have that race again next year, although there was some confusion about whether the race should be run at a mile and clockwise as in the program. At the last minute, the race was shortened to half a mile and run counterclockwise like the other races.- no idea why and even the announcer seemed confused. They had a tailgate judging contest where despite different judges the same groups seem to win every year with very similar displays that change little year to year. I was fasting for medical reasons and it was hard to walk past all those beautiful food displays ( not that the uninvited “little people” like us could try them anyway). Was a huge crowd with many getting there super early and then setting up multiple chairs and spread out coolers to camp out by the rail for the day making it hard to find an open spot by the rail to watch. Some also brought non-socialized dogs who barked incessantly at the horses. Wish they would have stayed home. They also need more picnic tables for people without chairs to eat lunch.

The equibase chart says Corky Lemon fell but walked off, and that Johnny Swish fell and was vanned off.

Thanks for the correction it was hard to tell as it happened far away from the viewing area. It looked to me like a bay horse with blue silks ran off after falling while the chestnut with pink cap fell hard on his head/neck and I did not see him get up. But must have been mistaken. It all happened so fast and we were far from the action although I did watch with binoculars. It took over 30 min for the “vanning off” to happen and they brought a big tractor/ front end loaded over to the jump so I wonder if we’ll ever know his fate. Maybe he didn’t die? We can hope. So many rumors going on there yesterday with very little info from the announcer/ officials. This event relies heavily on volunteers with varying levels of authority and knowledge-thankful for all they do though.

I’m sure the vantage points weren’t the best. I was thinking the same thing- if we will ever know his fate. Curious to see what the NSA will say for this report.

The famous Czech cross-country race the Velka Pardubicka (Grand Pardubice) was ran yesterday and for the first time in history there was a DEAD HEAT for the win. After 6900m Sexy Lord and Godfrey could not be separated by even a slow-motion camera.

Do you mean the American ones? If so, go to the NSA website and then pick the “Racing” tab, then scroll most of the way down and you will see a header that says “Results and Stewards’ Reports”. You can also watch live streams of the races on their site, as well as race replays.

They've shown them for the last 3? years I think, have done a very good job. Joe Clancy on the broadcast helps immensely.

Good racing but a number of falls- lucky all but one jockey (who may have had a broken collarbone) and all the horses seem to be ok.
