He ran 13th twice before the Alysheba too. I assume he is a quirky one.Flanders wrote: ↑Wed Oct 02, 2024 2:14 pmOnce in August, he finished last of 13. I looked through the BC contenders & I made a list of the total probables by country:
USA: 132
Canada: 8
Japan: 18 (19?)
France: 3
Ireland: 18
Great Britain: 22
(not including horses a probable for 2 races)
I may or may have not counted wrong

Frustrating the BC won’t be shown on UK terrestrial tv this year Guess I’ll have to find another way to watch now as I don’t have Sky Sports Racing.

I'm going to speculate that it might have something to do with the availability/length of the time slot on network television.

NBC(and every other network) paid a ton of money for College Football rights, so that takes top priority. But since they also have the television rights to the BC, the BC works with them to get the bigger races on television. It was the same last year though I think there were just 2 races after it.

I'm not much of a traditionalist, but having the Classic in the middle of the day just feels gross and wrong. It's the culmination of the entire year of racing, and the excitement building up to it all day is part of what makes the Breeders' Cup so special. I'm counting the days until Belmont finally gets the BC again.

Simon on TVG/FanDrool just confirmed that, due to the scheduling demands of college football, the Classic has to be in that spot on the card in order to have it shown on network NBC. There's a BC race being shown on USA before the NBC slot begins, and then another race afterwards on USA. ALL the BC races, except for the Classic, will be shown on FanDrool. (Also on Peacock, although I'm not as interested in streaming these races.)

Yeah I am not a fan. Never was much for college football, even when I was in college.Tessablue wrote: ↑Thu Oct 03, 2024 4:53 pm I'm not much of a traditionalist, but having the Classic in the middle of the day just feels gross and wrong. It doesn't take much to upset horseracing fans and get them to complain.
I look at it like one of my favorite meals growing up, my Mom called it a backwards dinner, where we got to eat dessert first.
Great memories, albeit unorthodox to many.
And to the sprinters out there, we'll watch all the way to the end and enjoy every minute, promise!

I've found it easier to tear up tickets at 8/1 instead of 8/5.

Wasn't the Classic not the last race on the card last year?
I agree that it's weird and should be the last race but at the same time it's not a huge deal.

It was the second to last race last year. With it being in PST this year, NBC has to make way for college football games so thats why its early afternoon.
