I guess my first enquiry would be to ask Senator Thayer where he obtained his Vet degree. Evidently somewhere that teaches soundness exams by viewing from afar. At least I guess he’s not necessarily doing it saying, “I read it on the in-ter-net”.

Certainly not a stretch to believe that could be true. When I was a special needs educator, there was a law in CA that stated if a student had an acute diagnosis—autism for instance—they needed to work with a specialist in the field. Anybody of that type was priced out of the market in public education and was working in private settings. So in essence the school district couldn’t begin to afford such a teacher. We would get plenty of kids from outside the district that were labeled as autistic in their I.E.P.’s. Public agencies recognized them as such. Yet when we did the student’s initial I.E.P., we changed it to, “Exhibits autistic tendencies”. Now I don’t know much but I know when a student is in the confines of the spectrum. When I brought it up, I was just a complainer—however one with tenure. If the school Psychologist brought it up, his or her head would roll and they’d be discredited and blacklisted. It was preferable to have a schlep teacher like me who knew enough about autism to be dangerous and was being paid like a schlep public educator to teach the kid. Them’s were the days.
