Who are some horses you've heard of with long layoffs? As in 1yr+.

Visual Display was brought back after a 7 year layoff and broke down at Ferndale.

There was a horse, Prince Petrone, that I think was brought back after a 6 year layoff. Double Feint, a Spectacular Bid colt, was off maybe 4 years. Kissin’ George, probably the 2nd best sprinter in the country during Dr. Fager’s career, was brought back to run in claimers for a couple of years 4 years after being injured.

Was there chatter about it? The chart doesn’t mention breaking down. I also wonder if that horse has been racing on Bush Tracks, specifically in Utah.genuinerizk wrote: ↑Fri Sep 06, 2024 12:57 pm Visual Display was brought back after a 7 year layoff and broke down at Ferndale.

That’s too bad. I still wonder how inactive he might have been during the layoff.Flanders wrote: ↑Fri Sep 06, 2024 4:24 pmHe is on the CHRB fatality list. https://www.chrb.ca.gov/racing_fatalities_Cat1.aspxCurtis wrote: ↑Fri Sep 06, 2024 4:12 pmWas there chatter about it? What was even the point of bringing him back? That race history doesn't scream "profitable and humane to bring back to the races after 7 years"genuinerizk wrote: ↑Fri Sep 06, 2024 12:57 pm Visual Display was brought back after a 7 year layoff and broke down at Ferndale.

Hall of Fame member Old Rosebud did it twice, earning the nickname of the "Comeback Kid." First 1yr+ layoff 30 May 1914 (immediately following his track-record win in the Kentucky Derby) to 18 Feb 1917; considered the American champion handicap male and Horse of the Year of 1917. Second such layoff 17 September to 25 April 1919; came back to be a winner at the allowance/overnight handicap level and placed in two stakes events. A third long layoff (14 June 1920 to 20 April 2021) and attempted comeback ended in tragedy as he raced four times, winning once and placing second once, before suffering a breakdown that proved fatal.
