If Shadai were Winstar, we would probably be speculating when they were going to be sold on to Korea or Turkey.
Both Harbinger(GB) and Poetic Flare(USA) had been quoted as ''private'' prior to the 2024 breeding season.
So those small numbers for the two are not surprising.
Poetic Flare's breeding record suggests that he has a serious fertility issue.
But I don't know exactly why Harbinger has been put in a semi-retirement status so early even if he is already 18 and a decline in his fertility rate has been rumored.
I feel that Harbinger is a very underrated stallion and hope, if he is still sound, Shadai will give him some more chances.
This year he has sired his first Classic winner in Cervinia(JPN), the Japanese Oaks winner, in May.
He is a very rare European stallion who has made success in the Japanese breeding.

Does anybody have a way to see European/Japan based mares and what horse they were bred to? I have a list of quite a few who I know retired last year/January of this year. If there are let me know pls! Or if someone has a way and wanna go through the torture this is the list
Right now, these are the only Justify daughters registered as broodmares in Japan. They do not have their covers entered yet. I believe its late November or early December when they tend to show up, though I'm not 100%. There will be mares that are listed on here when it goes live and you can check then. If you want to bookmark the page to check, I will include a link to Justify broodmares in Japan. This page has to be used in Japanese, while they do have an English version it doesn't show covers. So if you use Google Translate, the names sometimes might translate a little off, on each mare's page it will have 2 tabs you'll want to check under Breeding Information when its added.

As far as I know, the only way to get the UK/Irish covers is to pay for Wetherbys Return of Mares 2024, which isn't out yet. Last year it was £69.00 and was sold in their online shop. If the mares are elsewhere in Europe, I have no clue.

The numbers for Mind Your Biscuits have been quite bumpy since his stud debut at Shadai in 2019.

2019: 155
2020: 141
2021: 95
2022: 110
2023: 211
2024: 79

Mind Your Biscuits(USA) was crowned the JRA Champion First-Season Sire in 2022 and his number of mares rocketed up to 211 in the following year.
Derma Sotogake’s UAE Derby victory in the mid of the 2023 covering season must have added to his popularity.
I guess that this year's big decline was a sort of rebound as he didn't have any better news than Derma Sotogake prior to the 2024 breeding season domestically.
I can’t predict his next year's number, but good news for him could be that he sired his first JRA graded winner in Ho O Biscuits going 2000m turf in July this year.
And his full brother was sold at a good price in this year's JRHA Select Sale in July, too.

Let's see what Derma Sotogake and Ho O Biscuits do this Autumn, too.

That's a "big oof" as the kids say.

It's hard to gauge the success of dirt-based sires and the less "flashy" turf sires in Japan. Where is the best way to see a sires list of stakes performers within both (or all) circuits in Japan?

Does Hawkbill have foals of racing age yet? I think he's been retired for a while.

He is said to have been suspended from duty for this year.
The 20yo may still be back in business next year.

1. JBIS must be the most helpful source to find out the stallion's stats for the total of JRA and NAR in English.

https://www.jbis.jp/horse/0001289896/sire/generation/

2. Netkeiba must be the most helpful source to find out the stallion's stats for JRA only in English.

https://en.netkeiba.com/db/horse/sire_d ... e=1&type=0 (year)
or
https://en.netkeiba.com/db/horse/sire_d ... e=2&type=0 (year by crop)

In JRA, Hawkbill has had 43 starters and 4 winners to date.

Surprised there wasnt more love for the 12f sons of Frankel and Sea the Stars. Wouldve thought Japanese breeders would like to tap into those sirelines.

It looks like Japanese breeders remain unenthusiastic about European stayers...
That's probably because they don't know if European 12F horses are sharp enough to compete with Japanese horses on a quick turf in JRA.
None of European horses has finished in the money in the Japan Cup over the past 17 years and the latest European winner Alkaased(USA) in 2005 was by Kingmambo(USA).

But I'm still curious to see the number of mares covered by Westover(GB)(Frankel) at Yushun Stallion Station.
I look for a better number with him...
