Fox has kicked horse racing to the curb again. Saratoga's penultimate day is full of excellent races, but Fox would rather show C-level sports. No coverage until after 2 pm PDT. If we're lucky, maybe they will deign to show us the G1 JCGC.

For those without that option, this still sucks. Still no racing being shown anywhere on FoxSux, even if that is what is scheduled.
We've missed several races, and are about to miss the Bernard Baruch Stakes.

For whom would Youtube not be an option? It's frustrating to have the tv schedule co-opted, but Youtube is the same coverage and is completely accessible.

I am watching You Tube on my computer- I can't get it on my TV ( I don't have a smart TV)- I prefer watching races on TV
Someone on another site said this is really NYRA issue- has to do with their contract with Fox- that they know Fox will pre-empt some of the races Fan Duel would cost NYRA more money so they stick with Fox. whatever it is, it sucks. The idea that Fox just stops showing horse racing in an instant and goes to something else is so disrespectful to the viewing audience.

Another option is to hook your laptop up to a large monitor for better visuals. Agree about FOX it is a pain.

Fox has finally brought the Saratoga signal back to FSN2, so we can see the JCGC. How kind of FoxSux.
I also prefer watching races on my large TV. My computer monitor is puny in comparison, so no fun trying to watch races on it.

This does not make sense to me. Why not just make Laurel the official Maryland track now. Next year’s triple crown will be CD-Laurel ( same distance ?) -SAR. Stronach 1ST Racing will then get out of MD racing except to run racing Preakness week.
Reposting as sometimes my posts get lost in other discussions- opinions on this?

It’s already been widely reported in multiple articles that since the initial estimate to repair Pimlico came out pre covid and pre inflation, Laurel has actually fallen into worse condition than Pimlico. Both in the state of the grandstand and in the course itself, as it is build on a marsh and has had multiple streaks with elevated breakdowns.

1/ST wants out of Maryland racing. And there is only enough money for the Maryland Stadium Authority to fix one track. Pimlico means a hell of a lot to the city of Baltimore, so much so that they absolutely insisted on Preakness 150 being run at Pimlico even though it will be a construction zone.

Yes it’s a bad part of town, but a lot of people are actively working to make it a better part of town. By giving the main symbol of the community a half billion dollar facelift, it makes the pricetag a lot more bearable to the public at large.

I believe the area Camden Yards was built was fairly dilapidated. When ballparks are built, the areas around them are usually also built up and these areas become destinations. That concept has evolved. Usually this is not the case with racetracks. The Pimlico project sounds to be quasi multi-use, at least in an equine sense. The key will be to get at least one nice hotel and a few restaurants to come into the surrounding area.

I wonder if the rat infestation problem has gotten any better. Saw a program on this on PBS in the Baltimore downtown area and it was out of control a few years ago. I realize this is not just a Baltimore problem- the first time I saw a city rat was in Philly and I thought it was a cat or small dog much have been a good foot long or larger in broad daylight on the sidewalk in a “ nice” area around the U Penn campus.

Rat infestation is a problem at all tracks. The two-legged ones are the worst.

Belmont had big photos of some of the greats that ran at the track. They demolished them.

Who is Joe Del Norte? I’m not saying he’s reporting inaccurate information, I’m just not familiar with his work.

No clue but someone else took a pic of the demolition and the photos were visible.

It may be above his pay grade, but maybe Andy can comment. Not that any form of artwork should be demolished but at least with a photo, a replica can be created as long as the negatives exist. Those are famous photos and I would think they may have even been digitized. The chemicals used to make the negatives actually erode the product through time. I periodically get certain photos through Del Mar. Having them developed digitally gives me the truest color and resolution, at least to suffice for my purposes.

Oh I guarantee those aren't originals but its just weird to me that they chose to not take them down. Even if they didn't want them at the new Belmont, some fan would have bought them. proceeds could have gone to a good cause. guess it doesn't matter now cause they are gone.
