Congaree had a wonderful career. Game on Dude did as well, but he lost two Classics as the clear favorite and was not necessarily facing the best of his generation in most of his races. I'd expect there to be exceptions in a 30+ year career, but I don't think exceptions make the rule in this case. He's just not an older horse trainer, especially not in recent years. That's fine, it hasn't slowed him down. The industry barely cares about older horses at this point. But I can't feel in any way surprised when one of his horses with bad action and a history of layoffs retires at 4 under less-than-transparent circumstances.
Read that as per Bob NT going to Dirt Mile not Classic
The Dirt Mile is going to be a really good race I think!

8-year-old Filo de Arianna (BRZ) took the bet365 King Edward Stakes (CAN-G2) at Woodbine on the King's Plate undercard.

Back in the day, betting the cut back horse in these races was a nice little angle. Ferdinand winning the Malibu, Unbridled running down Housebuster when the latter was as good a sprinter as you’d find for several years. Back then though, the field sizes would yield a much more contested pace for that cut back horse to close into. This race is just a means to an end for the Senor. Bigger and better to come.

I think he might enjoy the cut back and will sharpen him up for the next one.

The streak comes to an end as The Chosen Vron is defeated by 3yo Raging Torrent, who caused a bit of a fuss with some huge CD wins earlier this year. Senor Buscador fourth, but not close at all.

I was really rooting for the Chosen Vron---- oh well
I think Senior Buscador needs another race to get fit

I’ve seen this sort of thing before. The Chosen Vron was trained to win the Bing Crosby and he probably ran his career best race. Last year he was trained up to the BC Sprint and didn’t really threaten. This year, a bit on the fly, the idea came to run today to give him a race in between. I think he bounced a bit while coming up against a horse who was trained for the race. Señor Buscador wasn’t really in it to win it. The first quarter wasn’t fast enough to set it up for him but it was a lot faster than what he’s been facing in those 9-10f races, so he was way out of it. I’m sure if he runs back in that Goodwood, Awesome Again, California Cup Classic (I’m sure I’ve got the name in there somewhere) he’ll be well meant. I think he’s a 9f horse, it hits him right between the eyes. He hangs a bit at 10f, but secondary prizes in the BC Classic are good too.

Wow Highland Falls ran neck and neck with Arthur's Ride the whole race to pull away to win the G1 Jockey Club Gold Cup over Pyrenees. Flavian Prat gave an outstanding ride!

Arthur’s Ride either didn’t want 10 furlongs or couldn’t handle coming back in 4 weeks or couldn’t handle another horse going with him.

Overall, this is just another example of how fast this sport has abandoned the older male division and pretty much all G1 races longer than 9 furlongs not named Kentucky Derby, Travers, or Breeders’ Cup Classic.

Arthur's Ride can definitely get 10f, he ran a huge figure earlier this year the distance. He just looked very uncomfortable out of the gate and seemed to just sort of resent receiving all that outside pressure. Very disappointing, especially after those huge past two races. Hopefully he comes out of it okay.

Pretty nice effort by Highland Falls, but that final furlong in 27 seconds... ouch. Will see how the figure comes back, but he might have finished fourth in the Travers.

Seriously though; I agree about Arthur's Ride -- he never looked comfortable even though he's clearly a horse who can get the distance. I thought he would be a more likely winner in this spot than the shorter Whitney. With Mixto taking the Pacific Classic, I'd say the three-year-olds are looking good for the Classic.
