Sad. I remember dragging my parents to Thistledown when I was in high school because I wanted to see a Breeders' Cup winner run in the Ohio Derby. He finished third that day; with the edition being won by Western Pride (Soes anyone else remember him? Handy little horse.)

I agree. His career cut short by injury, he barely got to show his talent.

*edit* nope, thinking of a different horse… haha. But he was getting good when he got injured and he had a good race record, he’s a beautiful looking horse and definitely is a better prospect than some of these 5 race wonders.

Maybe it was because Bernardini’s sons haven’t done well while his daughters are his legacy?

But even if that’s the case, all it takes is one son. WWP was fast, game, classy ….I don’t know if the Wests literally didn’t get any offers or if they just took the money and ran, but it’s aggravating

It's difficult.

It seems like the majority of Bernardini's "better" or "best" sons did get a chance in Kentucky or more prolific regional markets (like Florida). But while many of his sons definitely sired many graded stakes winners and competitors they simply did not churn out the consistent numbers or G1Ws required for the average Kentucky farm or breeder to want them. West Will Power is probably his best son to immediately get exported upon retirement rather than be given a shot at home, in comparison to the recent son Art Collector (RIP) who was due to move in at Claiborne. Many of Bernardini's best were gelded, like Imperative and Boban.

To Honor and Serve and Algorithms are the first two sons to come to mind as being sires of several GSWs and specifically one domestic G1W each (Eskimo Kisses and Math Wizard respectively).

MGSW Sir Anthony (Mineshaft - Mourette, by Smart Strike) retired to Howlett Ranch in Ohio earlier this year.

He set a NTR in the 2020 H. Allen Jerkens Stakes at Gulfstream Park.

He's being officially advertised as a 2025 stallion via Bloodhorse.

Heartland was born on the farm in 2021 and was a $575,000 yearling purchase. He is a son of Justify and half brother to Champion 2YO Classic Empire.
Owned by CHC Inc., Siena Farm and WinStar Farm, Heartland flashed his brilliance in a head-turning career debut at Del Mar last summer. In blitzing his foes in a 5 ½-furlong maiden special weight at Del Mar, Heartland overcame veering in at the start to win going away by two lengths for trainer Bob Baffert. His final clocking of 1:03.20 was the fastest time of any 2-year-old at the distance at Del Mar or Saratoga last year. The sparkling effort earned Heartland a 90 Beyer Speed Figure and TDN Rising Star status.
“One might ask, ‘Why stand a maiden winner?’ Well, he looks the part, he’s by Justify, and he’s a half-brother to Classic Empire,” said Elliott Walden, president, CEO, and racing manager for WinStar Farm. “It makes perfect sense to us because we know what we had. He has all the credentials—pedigree, elite ability, and looks. We felt he had the ability of a Grade 1 winner.”

All I have to say is WTF. I feel bad for having complained about Nashville.... at least he raced more than once. 10k??? What is happening.... I suppose they have a lot of empty stalls so are just going to retire whatever and set absurd stud fees.

I looked, albeit not very hard, and didn’t see why he was never able to make it back to the track. Would love to know what ailment prevented him from going on.
