While I totally agree with HISA on most counts, the omeprazole rulings baffle me- how is an anti-ulcer medication performance-enhancing? Can it act as a masking agent? I really don’t know. I do know that Anniversary Year’s stomach was such an issue because of ulcers that I had to be really careful with any pain meds I administered the rest of his life.

With so many potential (purported?) masking agents around it's a wonder there's ever a positive test for anything. And here the dumb parolees who have to test are still trying to fool the system by drinking 10 gallons of water. . .

All’s I know is that Robinson Cano got suspended a few years back when he was with the Mariners for testing positive for Lasix. I’m a fan of both baseball and horse racing equally or close to it. In the same ballpark one might say. Now, I’m a teetotaler. I had to shake my head and wonder if I really had just heard an MLB player got nabbed for Lasix.

Omeprazole has always been on the controlled drug list, long before HISA. So there has to be some reason its on there. So they aren't following protocol and are giving too much.

Thank god it isn’t restricted in the hunter/jumper world. My old man lives on omeprazole and sucralfate. Then gets misoprostol for a few months at a time if his hind gut ulcers act up.

He jumps the .60m with a 13 year old girl, and has gone to only 4 horseshows this year. Turned out every day, but he’s just a worrier. Can’t imagine not being able to treat something that almost all horses in competition suffer from.
