They have 11 total G1s for f/m in Ireland, France and UK. Maybe they don't have every niche covered but there are options.Missbeholder wrote: ↑Sat Aug 10, 2024 9:20 pmIsn't that one of the main reasons that females race against boys so much more just about everywhere else in the world besides the US? I think we're the only country that has a whole division program restricted to fillies and mares, especially older. Across both oceans, once the Oaks season is over, higher level females have nowhere else to run besides against males. People grouse and complain that we don't run our girls against the boys here like they do overseas. We'll, we have all kinds of graded stakes to compete in without having to face males. That's pretty much not the way they do things everywhere else!Flanders wrote: ↑Sat Jul 20, 2024 7:43 pmI meant to reply. Japan is very different. Their horses race longer, there isn't a rush for them to go to stud immediately, the races get huge crowds, etc. But they do not have a lot of G1 races for 3/u f/m, there are only 2 as far as I know and only 2 G2s if the list I saw was right. So if they have a top class mare, they race the boys because there really isn't much of a choice.
The turf versus dirt thing is truly a big deal in the question, but availability of options certainly factors in.

She got sick and missed a couple works. Hasn't worked since July 27th.

They don't mention the works in the article, just something I noticed.

I know it was mentioned in “In Memoriam”, but I think she deserves to be here as well. Black Caviar has passed away after a bout of Laminitis. The whole situation sounds terrible for all involved, like they had to induce her into foaling, knowing she would have to be euthanized afterwards?

She was on top of the world when I first started following racing in earnest. Hard to believe she was already 18.

So sad. It was not clear from the article if the laminitis was caused by mastitis or the treatment for the infection? I assume they had a nurse mare on hand for the foal? RIP.Northport wrote: ↑Sat Aug 17, 2024 1:24 am I know it was mentioned in “In Memoriam”, but I think she deserves to be here as well. Black Caviar has passed away after a bout of Laminitis. I read it as treatment from the infection.Squeaky wrote: ↑Sat Aug 17, 2024 11:40 amSo sad. I always thought the thread was primarily for females that run against males OR the occasional "look at this stupid good thing a filly did even if it's vs. other fillies."
