Catalog is out: https://www.fasigtipton.com/2024/The-Saratoga-Sale#/

PDF version: https://www.fasigtipton.com/catalogs/2024/0805/web.pdf

I just started going through the entrants and already found a half-brother to recent MGSW Power Squeeze (hip 3, Liam's Map x Callmethesqueeze) and a half-brother to Preakness winner Rombauer (hip 6, Constitution x Cashmere).

It’s strange that Honor A.P. didn’t have any in the recent sale, and none in this 😢😢

I don't expect that Honor A.P. got many top mares in his first few books, at least not compared to what is entered in this sale. I'm sure he'll have several in the September Sale!

EDITED TO ADD: There is a colts from Honor A.P. and Max Player's half-sisters entered!

I agree, and I’ve thought that LE has not done well my him at all - I don’t even think they supported him with some of their own mares. Any success he has - and he’s off to a very fine start - is all due to him

Good point! His babies sold well this year, both pre and post-performances…He’s going to be a sire that has to earn his way, and that’s fine…

I think September is better for him. There will be more info on him as a sire, and the yearlings will be a little more mature

Do they always support their stallions standing there? Maybe he’s there as a favour to the owner?

I just assumed they would, and not just HAP, of course - I thought that would be par for the course

No, I don’t think that’s it. The Searings (HAP’s owners) always wanted to stand him at LE, I think because of Indy. They actually changed his name from Hollywood Hero to HAP to honor Indy.

This is from June 2020. Of course this was 4 years ago, so while Honor Code had gone cold, it wasn’t as bad as it became. TBF to LE, even if they’d supported him with a few mares, they couldn’t make up for the lack of interest by breeders. Yes, maybe breeders saw HAP as unsound, but HC was an albatross to him by last year (33 mares bred!)

“He’s a horse that we have had an eye on since David Ingordo bought him as a yearling for Lee and Susan Searing’s CRK Stable,” said Bill Farish. “He was a standout at Saratoga and at $850,000 ended up being the highest priced yearling in Honor Code’s first crop. April Mayberry was quietly touting him while being broken and John Shirreffs has been high on him since he arrived at Santa Anita. We are very excited to secure another prospect from the A.P. Indy line. As is the case with most of our stallions, having a strong syndicate behind them is very important to their success. We are emboldened by the quality of the syndicate that has come together to support him. His looks, pedigree and his growing resume as a top racehorse gives him a great chance to be a successful sire.”

I think that hip 57 is going to be the sales topper. Charlatan is very popular with the breeders and he got an exceptional first book of mares. His first yearlings should sell well. Goldfield has produced G1SW Complexity, who looks at this point to be a special stallion. We know buyers come looking for "future stallion prospects" at these sales, seems the logical sales topper to me.

I bet they were less inclined to sell her after Ova Charged's untimely demise.

I wonder if the big drop in the Dow today will have a chilling effect on prices?
