Spendthrift just posted this to their TikTok. those hooves look BAD. and his poor knees.
Wow that poor horse needs major farrier and veterinary help . I hope he is not in pain.
i kinda doubt he isn't in any pain tbh. there was a video of him walking a few days ago and those legs HAVE to hurt.
i don't understand how they let his feet get like that. they look horrible, cracked and flat. my mare is slightly OATK and a good farrier job helps a lot.
Spendthrift can’t get the horse earning them millions of dollars proper farrier care?

Maybe his knees needed more spread hooves for support? They did look bad when I saw him.

That's pretty cute! It looks like he really wants to get down and roll in it. I actually thought he was going to there for a second or two!

Thanks for posting it!

Given my own pinto pony's dashed career as a teaser, I really do wonder if mares respond better to teasers with unusual markings. I feel like a significant percentage of teasers I see social media posts about are not just plain bays.

I can’t imagine looking at that conformation and thinking “I want to breed to that”… meanwhile he produces nothing but runners. But holy cheesecake, yuck.

He is a current 3yo who last raced in April.
They wanted to add something to CA bloodstock community, and this is who they came up with… interesting.
I mean, there is no shortage of turf sprints these days… is there? It’s not the craziest choice
There’s just so many options out there.

I really really like that a farm like Mill Ridge is giving him a chance.

I agree. I expect them to be patient as far as his career goes and to give him a fair shot. Standing Oscar Performance was quite risky (turf stallion and all) but that seems to have paid off for them at the moment.

Maybe Casa Creed will get some decent dirt mares because of his mostly "dirty" pedigree.

Some horses do seem to go more over at the knee as they age, I suppose as the tendons behind the knee weaken and stretch. If I am remembering right, the old-time sire Stimulus was like that; he eventually had to be euthanized because his tendons got so bad that he couldn't rise to his feet without assistance. I would guess that being heavy-bodied or allowed to get overweight wouldn't help.

I mean, breeders are breeding to him for fast three year olds, not sound 19 year olds.

Unfortunately, given that Spendthrift are his caretakers, he will be euthanized due to unsoundness before he is ever pensioned due to unsoundness.

now you're assuming his heart will keep on taking the workload of covering mares 350+ times in a span of 4 months.

Could also be that they do double-duty in covering nurse mares and a colorful foal is more likely to find a buyer.
