Definitely!

I was a big fan of his.
I thought his 2002 Whitney was sensational beating the likes of Street Cry, Lido Palace and Macho Uno, equaling the tack record at Saratoga while getting that extra furlong under the super Johnny V.
He could have been one of the flag-bearers (along with Kurofune who stood in Japan) for his sire French Deputy, but... :(
I was just glad when he was named the Eclipse older male champion that year.

He was the Champion Turf Horse of 1990 and a lovely grey. If I remember right (this was alongtime ago), he got injured in like December 92. He broke his withers and the vet said he wouldn't ever be able to cover mares. they tried to bring him back to the races in 94 but he wasn't anywhere near the same horse. So they retired him and he lived out his life at Cardiff Stud until he had to be put down at 20.

I added some more horses to my list after you replied. hahaha
I’m all but positive that Itsallgreektome was gelded very early in his racing career, if not before it. The 1990 Del Mar Derby, cost me a nice P3. Tight Spot won the race but was DQ’d and Itsallgreektome was moved up from 2nd. At the time some of us were talking and theorized that Verne Winchell should just give up the difference in purse money and negotiated to keep the win since Tight Spot was a colt and ‘Greek’ lacked equipment. The DQ was later overturned in court and Tight Spot was reinstated as the winner. I’m still waiting for the CHRB to send me the check for my P3.
Why would it matter if Greek was a gelding?

For a gelding, it’s only money. For a colt it makes them more valuable.

One that just came to me was St Nicholas Abbey. I started following European racing in earnest in 2011, and he was always in the news, dancing all the big dances and jumpstarting Joseph O'Brien's career as a jockey. He really needed to go 1 1/2 miles left handed, but was a hard trier and I just loved his running style. High head carriage, high tail carriage.

I know he probably would've fallen into the Ballydoyle middle distance horse model where he runs till 6 or 7 before getting a couple seasons at Coolmore proper or Coolmore National Hunt before getting moved along. Or getting sold overseas as soon as he retires from racing.

But being that Montjeu had died in 2012 and Camelot almost won a triple crown in the same year, I would like to think that SNA would've gotten a fair chance to be a good stallion. He might have excelled as an older horse, but he was a G1 winner as a juvenile, and was once the favourite for the Derby before getting injured and being out for a year.

In hindsight it is rather confusing that Hansen was not given more attention when he retired to stud, being a precocious, champion son of rising star Tapit. Naturally Coolmore was not going to support him at all and then sold him before his first babies even dropped. He had several minor stakes horses and several multiple winners in that lone crop. His best foal in the USA is undoubtedly Fast and Accurate.

Anyone remember Rock Fall? 7 for 8 lifetime, 2 G1Ws, broke down during training.

Its quite rare that a stallion is sold on before their first crop races, let alone is even born. They must have gotten a big amount for him. He was fairly popular, I had to look how many mares he got and it was 147. This was before 200+ mares became common, so that was a good size book. Too bad his first crop didn't do better because they had a buy back clause for him if that crop did well.

Yeah I put Rock Fall on my list as well. I was really looking forward to seeing him and Runhappy face off at Keeneland.

Hansen is currently the leading general sire in SoKo and was also the leading general sire in 2023 and 2020 I believe. He has steadily risen up the ranks since being over there.

I wish the online Korean Stud Book, while certainly extensive in its information, was a bit more concise when it comes to local stakes statistics.

I know of at least 3 SW by Hansen in Korea: Eunpa Sarang (G1 Korean Derby) White Queen (listed), and Something Lost (listed). Love the name on that last one.
