I really liked this Bloodhorse report on Kazushi Kimura.
Yeah, I think he is right. Riding style in Japan is very different.

"I'm still learning," Kimura said. "I look at other riders to see what they are doing well—how they break, how they finish—and see if what they do technically can work for me. In Japan, riding style is more like Europe. They settle the horse early and concentrate on a finish. Some riders you even see bounce in the saddle. They learn this because some courses are uphill last part and that can help the horse go forward."

Kimura's style, though, is very American. When in California, he also enjoys the break from the underhand whip rules imposed in Canada, although tracks under the jurisdiction of the Horseracing Integrity and Safety Authority are stricter when it comes to jockey health protocols. Kimura sustained a concussion in a fall at Woodbine one year ago.

In your role with Darley Japan, you have welcomed well-known horses in Europe like Hukum (Ire) and Adayar (Ire) to the stallion roster. How have they been received and is it difficult taking on the might of a 30-strong Shadai Stallion Station roster?

We welcomed another new horse, Palace Malice, to Japan recently. He's standing at ¥3.5 million and has covered 262 mares and has more than 200 of those in foal. You know, if you bring the right product, you will do well. A lot of good mares–some from Northern Farm and Shadai Farm–have been sent to Palace Malice...

It's unfortunate that the 140 mares limit the Jockey Club wanted to implement wasn't a success

I think even 150-160 could be okay but anything above that is too much

I'm sure that if America implement a cap, some other countries would follow so you never know.

I would think that you are right.

I was shocked when I realized that Shadai allowed Kitasan Black to cover 270 mares and I posted it in this forum last year.

Even if I do think that Japanese stud farms should set themselves right by themselves, their behaviors, especially in the international operation like SHADAI, are very much influenced by what's going on in the states (and maybe in Europe).
They are always looking at America (and Europe) to learn about.

I don't know about Darley Japan's policy.
But I know that Shadai, the leading stud farm in Japan, once limited the number to 200.
But they returned to their bad habits in 2023 after the Jockey Club rescinded mare cap rule in 2022.

Durezza(JPN)(Duramente) has left for UK to contest the G1 Internationl Stakes at York yesterday.
He was very disappointing in his last time out Tenno Sho Spring, though.
Has he already found his Kikuka Sho form?

As fierce heat was predicted, the JRA decided to implement a new format on a trial basis at Niigata Racecourse July 27-28, when post time of the first race was 9:35 a.m. After the fifth race started at 11:35 a.m., there was a three-hour, 35-minute break during the hottest time of day. Racing resumed at 3:10 p.m and concluded with the 12th and final race at 6:25 p.m.

I've never been to Niigata Racecourse.
But it seems that racing fans are not annoyed by the long lunch recess.
Fans are allowed to enter the paddock ring and experience the cooling mist for the horses, too.
Both handle and attendance increased from last year.
