me and Flanders always like to go through the catalogues to judge conformation. last year we shared a bunch in the KEESEP thread, unfortunately i think most (if not all) links are broken now so you can no longer see them, so this year i'm saving them to Imgbb so the links remain active.
for this first post i'm going through the July Sale catalogue, not a lot of them have photos yet surprisingly (given the sale is next week) but amongst the ones that do... a lot of them look pretty bad. i will not be responsible for any damage to your eyes :P, you've been warned.
PS: i'll edit this post as they add more photos of fuglies.

idk if you guys have ever seen those custom Breyer videos where people saw off a model's head and neck to glue it to a different horse. that is what this looks like. and the legs are surprisingly (too) straight for an Into Mischief-line horse, so congrats to that dam for her genes.

To be fair, some of those butt high weiner dogs are growing and they are in a weird stage.

But the front legs on some of those horses are f’d. 37 and 194 are the worst. I think.

I thought you were a little too harsh especially on the OATK issue but I share your amazement over, among others, the Arabian headed By My Standards and the blockheaded Yaupon. Ugh!
I ran marathons. I saw the Taj Mahal by Moonlight. I drove Highway 1 in a convertible. I petted Zenyatta.

This is a total masterclass of “huh…” and “HUH?!” that buyers looking for stock are willing to overlook and/or accept. Obviously some of these higher priced critters must vet and scope squeaky clean, look fantastic at the walk/trot and have pages to back them up because they aren’t winning beauty contests.

the thing is, (at least in my opinion) their walks don't even look good. or at least not that good. surely they're seeing something that we're not because i saw a bunch of these get mentioned as "beautifully built" by buyers in articles. there were a bunch of compliments given to the $220,000 Maxfield.

some of them have good (?) pages, like the one i just mentioned is from the family of Cigar. but then the arabian looking thing's page has, uh... *checks notes* zero graded stakes winners on his page. so i just don't know.

It always has mystified me how much money this untried untested yearlings sell for. Yeah they can have graded winners in there bloodlines or bred in the purple but that doesn't mean much. Each horse is an individual
