Coolmore buys Strawberry Hill Stud. They plan to use it as a spelling operation for their Australian racehorses.

That is great news, it’s a beautiful farm. Thought I was in KY when I first saw it some 20+ years ago.

Castleton-Lyons Farm to be subdivided and sold. Who knows what the future will be for the farm. Subdivision housing after subdivision? Article doesn't say much but says there are restrictions on what it can be used as.

Would imagine Gio Ponti ends up at Old Friends or somewhere.

This says each lot can only had 2 houses, 1 main house and 1 for farm tenants.

Yes it is a bummer to see Castleton Lyons dissolve, but I honestly can see the angle here. No one is looking for 1000 acre horse farms in Kentucky right now. You have maybe one billionaire every 10 years getting into the game on that level, but even then they don't want an operation that big right off the hop. Just ask the realtor who has been trying to sell the Adena Springs property in Paris.
On the other hand, you have sporthorse and equestrian operations spending more and more time in Kentucky, showing at the Horse Park and WEC Ohio. Operations that used to spend summers on the East Coast are now opting to come to Kentucky instead. 40-80 acres is more than enough to build a 30 stall hunter/jumper facility, plus you are a stone's throw away from one of the best facilities in the country.
With the sparse amount of existing farms that come up for sale in that area that meet an equestrian's needs (one or two smaller barns, all weather riding arena, smaller paddocks [and yes, I do check real estate listings frequently - a girl can dream]), I can see these properties being snatched up very quickly.
No, it won't be 20 acre sprawling paddocks filled with mares and foals, but it's not like it will be paved over and turned into a Wal Mart parking lot.

Aww, I didn't know Castleton Lyons had a heart shaped plot on the farm. That's super cute.
I'm sure some of it will be used for "regular" housing but hopefully it just gets split into different farms or equestrian venues.
PQ says Gio Ponti was pensioned this year anyway (no idea if he bred a few mares before that though, like as in was pensioned in May or something) but maybe he can go to Kentucky Horse Park? He is a 3x Eclipse champion. Not that I'm opposed to Old Friends at all.
He has stood his entire career at Castleton. Hopefully he handles the move OK. Anyone know what happened to Protonico? I kind of thought he might get more attention after Medina Spirit but it looks like he didn't.

Protonico is at Haras Sumaya in Chile at his owners farm, the same owner since he was racing. Though he was advertised for 2023, he hasn't covered mares in the US since 2022. The farm posts a lot on social media, at least Instagram and X as their name, Haras Sumaya. They are the farm that had the video of another stallion playing with a giant soccer ball on IG.Mylute wrote: ↑Mon Jun 17, 2024 8:43 am Aww, I didn't know Castleton Lyons had a heart shaped plot on the farm. It got deleted, Ryland Thoroughbreds in Australia had a post from the dad of the man that owns Ryland Thoroughbred with his wife Bec. He said that, Bec lies and gets his son Luke arrested for domestic violence, threats, etc. Because of that Ryland Thoroughbreds has to close, the partnership has to be dissolved. To do this, they are killing all the horses because its better to know they died at home, than be sold on. (it was a lot longer than that, but that was the important takeaways)brunanas wrote: ↑Thu Jun 20, 2024 11:32 amwhat is it? won't open for meMissNMecke wrote: ↑Thu Jun 20, 2024 9:34 am Guys.....this is fake, right? My 2 cents of what it looks like:
An abusive husband, chooses his revenge for his wife leaving by killing all the horses so she doesn't get any or any money in the divorce/breakup of the partnership. Then the killing all the horses because of an unknown future is like PETA motto, if you can't know for sure what happens, better just to kill.

Now says that the board of directors have been removed and Luke Ryland is taking control of the partnership and no horses will be killed. Whatever is going on these people are not mentally stable.
Older posts explained that because of incidents (domestic abuse), Luke had stepped down. his father and someone else were the board of directors.

Thanks for the update. That's a relief. Though I'm not sure those horses are out of the woods yet. Seems like unstable is putting it lightly there. When I first saw the post, I was hoping that it was another of those 50-some-odd TB"s to go to slaughter ones that go around every other year. At least these horses are safe-ish.

Idk if they really are safe. Its bizarre and seeing a post from early May makes me think no one involved is safe. He blaming her for some incident happening at the farm because she went out to dinner for her birthday. Its just beyond words. Her saying she hoped she got killed. Who posts this kind of stuff to their business page????? Can it even be real, there is no mention of contacting police or anything.MissNMecke wrote: ↑Thu Jun 20, 2024 3:53 pm Thanks for the update.
