I wish him the best but somehow just don’t see him standing up to racing with bilateral suspensory issues that tend to be very slow to heal and become chronic and recurrent. I hope he proves me wrong.Flanders wrote: ↑Fri Jun 14, 2024 6:12 pmhttps://x.com/BH_BKing/status/1801726684086813157brunanas wrote: ↑Fri Jun 14, 2024 3:53 pm Rich Strike to be moved to Mott for training in the coming days

The good thing is that Bill Mott is a true horseman: if he feels Rich Strike cannot be competitive or that his issues won't allow him to race at this level, he will level with the owner. I don't trust the owner though- This horse has no stud value and he seems to be trying to get blood out of a stone. I will hope that Rich Strike does not pay a steep price for the folly of an owner.Squeaky wrote: ↑Fri Jun 14, 2024 6:25 pmI wish him the best but somehow just don’t see him standing up to racing with bilateral suspensory issues that tend to be very slow to heal and become chronic and recurrent. "This horse has no stud value..."
I don't know if I would say No value. He is a Kentucky Derby winner, with a nice physical appearance, plus being a Curlin grandson. He could be a good fit for a regional market, although the owner may not agree.
That is, however, a LOT of Smart Strike in his pedigree. Good? Just OK? Bad?

To me he doesn't scream stud prospect even being a derby winner. Not every horse needs to go to stud even in regional markets. Which if i was breeding i wouldnt touch him with a forty foot pole just because of how inbred he is. I also find it telling he doesn't have a stud deal yet, which either means no one wants him or his owner is greedy and wants more money then Rich Strike is worth.BaroqueAgain1 wrote: ↑Fri Jun 14, 2024 10:58 pm "This horse has no stud value..."

It was the latter. There were supposed offers but he wanted more than they were for. But somehow that didn't click with him even though people in the industry tried explaining it to him. He thinks by bringing the horse back to the races, that he'll become a MG1SW and suddenly be worth more.Akitaperson wrote: ↑Sat Jun 15, 2024 6:09 amTo me he doesn't scream stud prospect even being a derby winner. This whole thing is confusing, and much is on the owner. First he was retired then he wasn't, then he was put into a sale as a stallion prospect, withdrawn from the sale etc. Owners vision for Rich are to high imo and I hope it doesn't turn into a Battle of Midway situation

Honestly that would be the best case scenario. Unless he wins another 2+ G1s that don't result from pace collapses in 20 horse fields, he just isn't going to get any attention from a major Kentucky farm. In an ideal world, he'll work a couple times, Mott gives Dawson a reality check, and Rich Strike is on a plane to Shizunai before the end of the year.

A creative racing secretary should write a race. “Eligible to North American Classic winners, NW since with delusional connections that won’t retire them”. It’ll be a small field. I’m thinking maybe Los Alamitos.

I trust Bill Mott. He must have seen some potential in Rich Strike post-rehab to even bring him up to Saratoga. Mott may be trying to give the owner a reality check, but I do trust Mott to call it as he sees it, and let's hope the owner listens and does right by the horse.

Owner Rick Dawson posts on Facebook that former trainer Eric Reed trained and raced Richie while injured to meet movie schedule https://paulickreport.com/news/people/i ... ich-strike
