Flanders wrote: Mon Jun 03, 2024 7:04 pm Its late in the breeding season, they either raised his stud fee and/or they are being highly selective on the mares they will squeeze into the book. The last time they did that with him, there was a significant price increase. Truly I think he will be at least 300k next year, it could be much higher. Because he has 10 G1 winners, his oldest crop is 5. His numbers are amazing. His G1SW % is twice that of Into Mischief, will that make his stud fee twice as high?

To be fair, I removed both his and Into Mischief's 2yos from the stats, as its still early in the season:
Gun Runner: 365 foals 3+ - 10 G1SWs = 2.7%
Into Mischief: 1579 foals 3+ - 21 G1SWs = 1.3%
IM got lots of crops on the ground and maybe it is best to look at the stats with his first 3 crops and see how Justify compares to him
Into Mischief's numbers go down only using his first 3 crops, its why I did lifetime. He stood for cheap and didn't get many mares, Goldencents was his only G1SW from his first 4 crops. Justify's numbers are better than IM but not Gun Runner level. Yes he has one less crop than GR but only 10 less foals that are 3+, when adding the 2yos it gets even closer.

Into Mischief - 104 - 1 G1SW = 0.9% (only first 3 crops)
Justify - 355 - 6 G1SWs - 1.69%

These are all super elite level stallions. I was just trying to give reasons why Gun Runner is probably private right now. A lot of stallions in Kentucky are sitting at like 4% for SWs. These 3 are good enough they actually have a G1SW %.

For the heck of it:
Tapit - 1.88%
Curlin - 1.75%

Historic Year for Storm Cat as his line takes the Kentucky Derby, Betfred(Epsom) Derby and Prix du Jockey Club(French Derby). Interesting note at the beginning of the article, Alan Porter says the farm he was working at was trying to negotiate to stand Storm Cat in Europe when he first retired.

That isn't a surprise. There aren't going to be any new Arrogates being foaled, and there will be a limited number of the existing colts who are G1 winners.

I'd also take on Calumet and Winstar as other places I'd rather see him not go. But I bet Spendthrift is gonna win the bid

Calumet only buys the obscurest of the obscure. I dont even know if they actually have any intention of buying stallions again, it's been a very long time.

If he doesnt go to Spendthrift I would be shocked. Besides Coolmore, they have the deepest pockets. B. Wayne Hughes set up a fund before he died specifically for his daughter and son in law to tap into to buy stallion prospects. That and their huge roster and unlimited book size just gives them the ability to outbid almost every other farm.

The Arrogates are going to be like the Scat Daddys but even more limited numbers. Every farm is going to be scrambling to secure any that have graded stakes form.

I do to but unfortunately Oxbow is at Calumet so he doesn't have that much of a chance at succeeding
