so happy for the hong kong connections, romantic warrior was hugely impressive - especially the way he had to make room for himself at the 400m mark!!! a well-deserved win.
and kudos to namur and soul rush, if not for romantic warrior it would've been a banger of a finish!!

THIS.
So much about the culture of japan who are honored that this "foreign invader" team came to race in one of their races.... not resentfulness but pure joy....
.....then the magnificent saluting and bowing, by both horse and jockey, to their wildly cheering spectators ...and the beautiful training and class showed to present such wonderful racing theatre for the crowd.

Reading the comments in the you tube video gives some hints about how and why they have a huge fanbase and following for the sport there.

Next stop is the Tokyo Derby, the second leg of the Japanese Dirt Triple Crown Races.
In the absence of Forever Young and/or Amante Bianco, Ramjet is likely to be sent off as the top favorite!

Awww.. you remind me of the good old days, too!
Does anyone here remember the TBC poster 'drjohnh' (aka Karen)?
She was quite open-minded and well versed in the international racings.
Good Ba Ba was one of her favorite horses, too.
I always loved her posts.

King Kamehameha to be introduced to the JRA Hall of Fame
Wednesday, 05 June, 2024 17:15
It's been 19 years since he was nominated, but now King Kamehameha has secured a fresh legacy as an inductee to the JRA Hall Of Fame. Having long garnered substantial support, he was finally inducted into the Hall of Fame with 143 out of 176 votes (81.3%). His recognition extends beyond his racing career to his impactful legacy as a sire.
Owner Masato Kaneko expressed his joy, stating, "King Kamehameha's racing career was brief, but his success as a sire allowed our dreams and those of everyone involved to continue. His bloodline persists, and this award makes his enduring legacy all the more meaningful."
Kunihide Matsuda, the former trainer who managed King Kamehameha during his racing career, extended his gratitude, saying, "I am thankful to the owner, farm staff, and everyone involved. I also appreciate the dedication of the JRA veterinarians, farrier Fukuda, and the stable staff. I am deeply grateful to the fans and media for their support."
King Kamehameha passed away in August 2019 at the age of 18, but his legacy lives on through his progeny, which include the world-renowned sprinter Lord Kanaloa, dual Classic winner Duramente, Triple Tiara winner Apapane, and dirt specialist Hokko Tarumae. His induction into the Hall of Fame, 19 years after his initial nomination, is a testament to his enduring influence in various racing categories.
Triple Crown winner Contrail secures Hall Of Fame spot at second attempt
Wednesday, 05 June, 2024 17:26
The undefeated Triple Crown winner Contrail was selected for the Hall of Fame. Last year, he narrowly missed out with a 74.9% voting rate, but this year he comfortably surpassed the required three-quarters majority with 152 out of 176 votes (86.4%).
Owner Shinji Maeda expressed his gratitude, saying, "I am honoured and moved. Contrail spent most of his career racing without spectators or with limited attendance, but I hope he will be remembered and celebrated by many racing fans as a Hall of Fame inductee."
Trainer Yoshito Yahagi, who managed Contrail during his racing career, shared his joy, stating, "I am extremely honoured. After the unexpected miss last year, I am relieved. Contrail brought a shining light during the dark days of the COVID-19 pandemic. I look forward to seeing his offspring continue his legacy."
Contrail's final race was the 2021 Japan Cup, which he won before retiring to stud at Shadai Stallion Station. His offspring have already attracted attention, with Conviction I's 2023 foal fetching ?520 million (excluding tax) at the 2023 foal Select Sale, the third highest price in the sale's history. His progeny are set to debut in 2025, with hopes high that they will continue the Triple Crown legacy of their grandsire Deep Impact and sire Contrail.

''Ten Happy Rose(JPN)(Epiphaneia) will be aimed at the BC Mile after a prep race in Japan'', said her trainer Daisuke Takayanagi today!!!tachyon wrote: ↑Tue May 14, 2024 10:20 amYes!!!lurkey mclurker wrote: ↑Sun May 12, 2024 1:32 pm i feel bad for masked diva but wow ten happy rose!! and her groom was sooooo excited when he met them in the tunnel, it was too cute!!! <3

That's a fabulous photo of Ten Happy Rose and her connections.
And we were especially happy for her jockey Akihide Tsumura.
He had been very-well known by the racegoers and his colleagues in Japan as an excellent rider.
But he had just been unlucky.
His speech in the post-race interview after winning his first G1 title in the Victoria Mile was so moving that reduced me to tears, too.
https://twitter.com/risugurashun/status ... 5087988174
“I had long been waiting and working hard to be able to stand on this podium as a G1 winner and it feels really great that I have finally made it. The race development, from the start up until the final corner, exceeded my imagination and it was just a matter of how much the mare could extend her strides from there. When we were actually leading in the last 200 meters, it was almost unbelievable. I am grateful for the fans that have been rooting for me and I hope this is just the start of more victories like this,” commented jockey Akihide Tsumura."I've finally won a G1 (21st year as JRA jockey), but I don't want this to be the last - I want to experience again that roar from the crowd coming back after the race.”
Go Tsumura, Go!
Akihide Tsumura is expected to pick up her mount at Del Mar.

I had never seen someone making a full list of JRA Hall of Fame in English.
And I think that @Kontenasan's brief comments on inductees are accurate and spot on.

Yeah, I thought that Silence Suzuka was a super horse and his 4yo campaign before the Tenno Sho Autumn was marvelous.lurkey mclurker wrote: ↑Tue Jun 11, 2024 7:39 pm kinda sad not to see silence suzuka in the HOF with el condor pasa...
But the Takarazuka Kinen became his only G1 title..
