Just Steel was run back in two weeks, he got injured so now running them back in two weeks is bad.

Running horses back in 2 weeks isnt what most have a problem with.

If you compare Just Steel's entire campaign before and since dec '23, which is the only time received a short break, quite different than most other horses, esp in this day and age and esp given that he only won at 6f. Looks very tone deaf, plus, sink or swim isnt everyones favorite way anymore. Really isnt about running back in 2 weeks. Most horses can do THAT if thet arent on lasix.

Never underestimate how much some fans really love the "gladiator" model of horse racing.

Unfortunately, whatever causes the bad public perception of horse racing, and what puts the sport at risk for going away, will be because of them though.

Times have changed, breeding has changed, training methods have changed. Those who cannot adapt to change will be the ones who help destroy the reputation of yhe sport. Horses are not gladiators and shoulnt be treated as such.

idk if i really can/should link the tweets publicly but her account is @Frankie222841. her tweets are 70% Secretariat hate, 15% wishing death on someone/a horse, 10% being a troll in general and most recently 5% being an ass to Old Friends. the tweets are mostly completely disgusting but going through them is basically like, seeing the effects of anti-asylum movements (apparently these were only a thing in my country but y'all get the point).

A lot of institutions got shut down here in the U.S. circa 1980, based upon poor research studies and a desire to “save taxpayer money”.

As for the person you mention, she seems the epitome of treatment non-compliance.

Same song...different day. Ultimately, this is subjective. We could come up with hundreds of examples of horses that raced maybe 5 times over two years that broke down, and horses that ran consistently for several years before also breaking down. Materiality and Magnum Moon are horses that come to mind as examples of the former, and both of those are Pletchers. Army Mule is another. I often see the "fun fact" shared that Pletcher has the most former trainees standing as stallions of any trainer; that's because he's got a plethora of horses that win like one G1 before retiring due to injury after short careers. And breeders seem to think we need more horses like that in the pool.

I don't think anyone is exactly denying that DWL has a long history of """"chewing up horses"""" but we probably wouldn't be having this debate if it were another trainer, or if Just Steel hadn't been injured. What if he ran 1-2?

Thank you for that post. I certainly wasn’t defending Lukas when I previously said racing horses less hasn’t always kept them sound and alive. Maybe I’m just crazy but Chad Brown’s formula of 3 starts then the Preakness hasn’t been conducive to long term careers either.
