It didn't sound like Amante Bianco's injury was career-threatening.
My understanding was that he would bypass the Tokyo Derby simply because he would not be 100% by the second of the Triple Crown on the dirt.
I look forward to seeing the match-up between the white colt Amante Bianco and the Kentucky Derby 3rd Forever Young(JPN ) in the Japan Dirt Classic, final leg of the Triple Crown on the dirt in Japan!!!

What a shame!
Meisho Tabaru(JPN) has been scratched from the Tokyo Yushun due to a stone bruise on his left hind hoof.
The Gold Ship colt was widely expected to set the pace and none of the others usually race upfront.
It will be interesting to see which horse will go to the lead early.
I wonder if a possible slow pace could favor those stretch runners who can exercise sharp turn of foot in this year's Derby.

Shin Emperor is full brother to an 'Arc winner and I hope a karmic payback happens as this is same jockey/trainer combo as was Forever Young. However a foreign born horse has never won this race .

Sugar Kun was bred by the same breeder as T O Password (Yanagawa Bokujo) and is 1/2 brother to Kitasan Black.

I have to look them over some more as I look at this race as a prep race for the 'Arc. I pretty much wager on Deep Impact sirelines or grandsire lines, and that has been amazingly profitable for me----I did't orignally set out to do that on purpose, it's just that all the horses I really like turn out to be from that sireline. (forever young, Auguste Rodin, Sharyar, Loves Only You, Contrail, Kizuna).

Japanese Derby odds this morning:

Image

I would like to cast spotlights on the top Satsuki Sho finishers for handicapping this year's Tokyo Yushun.
I think that the Satsuki Sho winner Justin Milano (2.6 = 8/5) is a deserved favorite here and I will be surprised if he won't hit the board today.
But I didn't see much difference between Justin Milano and the runner-up Cosmo Kuranda in that race and the latter's odds (12.8) looks very juicy compared with the favorite.
I like Urban Chic (8.8), the fast-closing 4th in the Satsuki Sho, hoping he will show his best in the 2400m turf at left-handed Tokyo.
The filly Regaleira (4.7) was a bit disappointing last time out. But I thought she was ridden poorly and she gets Lemaire this time.
Of the non-Satsuki Sho starters, Sixpence (7.9) seems to have the best potential to improve further.

My picks :

Urban Chic
Cosmo Kuranda
Justin Milano
Regaleira
Sixpence

*Total of 8 runners have a chance to become the first ever Derby winner over three generations: there are 5 Kizuna (by Deep Impact) offsprings, 2 Duramentes (King Kamehameha), and 1 Rey de Oro (King Kamehameha). Highest finish by a Kizuna colt in the Derby is Deep Bond (2020,5th)

That's the 3rd Derby victory for Norihiro Yokoyama who becomes the oldest JRA jockey to win a G1 at the age of 56.

Danon Decile(JPN), 2021C. Epiphaneia(JPN) x Top Decile(USA) by Congrats(USA), won the G1 Tokyo Yushun 2400m turf under veteran Norihiro Yokoyama at Tokyo on May 26th 2024.
That's the first victory for his trainer Shogo Yasuda who is well-known as the son of an ex-leading trainer Takayuki Yasuda who had Lord Kanaloa, Curren Chan etc.
And his breeder Teruya Yoshida (Shadai Farm) looks very happy, too, for his first Japanese Derby victory in 14 YEARS. :D

Netkeiba.com shared a wonderful post-race report!
https://en.netkeiba.com//news/news_detail.html?id=1155

''Yokoyama "deeply grateful to the horse" after G1 Japanese Derby win with Danon Decile''
Danon Decile, the ninth favourite, surged brilliantly along the inside rail to claim victory in the 2024 G1 Japanese Derby, standing atop the 7,906 thoroughbreds of his generation. This victory marked jockey Norihiro Yokoyama's third Japanese Derby win, following his triumphs with Logi Universe in 2009 and One and Only in 2014, and he also becomes the oldest jockey to win the G1 Japanese Derby. The favourite, Justin Milano, who aimed for a double crown after winning the G1 Satsuki Sho, finished second, while Shin Emperor, the seventh favourite, secured third place.

Victorious jockey Norihiro Yokoyama commented, "With no other horse taking the lead, I anticipated an average to slow pace. If we had a good start, I was ready to take the lead, but jockey Yasunari Iwata took the initiative. The horse really kicked on well in the straight."

Danon Decile had been scratched from the Satsuki Sho right before the start due to lameness in his right foreleg, a decision Yokoyama made himself. "Winning the Derby is immensely gratifying, and it validates my decision during the Satsuki Sho. Even after such setbacks, treating the horse with care paid off. I am deeply grateful to the horse," he said, paying his utmost respect to his partner.

At 56 years, 3 months, and 4 days old, Yokoyama surpassed Yutaka Take's record of 54 years, 9 months, and 10 days (set with Do Deuce in the 2023 Arima Kinen), becoming the oldest jockey to win a JRA G1 race. "Being the oldest jockey in the field and receiving congratulations from not just my sons but everyone, it's a relief. Winning a G1 is about more than just the victory; even riding in these races is challenging. To achieve this result by being sincere with the horse brings unparalleled joy. Trainer Shogo Yasuda and his father were here, and it was great to show a good performance with my family and connections present," he said with a smile.

Trainer Yoshito Yahagi commented after Shin Emperor had finished good 3rd in the Japanese Derby;
''He will be aimed at the Arc via the Irish Champion Stakes.''
