I don't think that is an "opinion" so much as a truism, for anyone who knows horses. So, yeah.

Well Curtis, If you have to ask then its not a discussion i care to have with you.
If youre okay with how he has been campaigned then theres really not much to talk about, since we obviosly dont think alike.
Maybe go have an argument about something else with someone who is easily baited by trollish one-liners.
Also maybe there are some respected trainers out there you can ask, who have a reputation for putting the horse first. They are out there.

MSD, imo you have mischaracterized Curtis. He is not a troll, but does have an impish sense of humor.

I wasn’t trying to bait anyone, I was trying to set up a baseline for context. I wasn’t actually aware that a specific trainer was under scrutiny but I guess given the result of the Preakness I should have ascertained it was DWL. I’ve spent much of my adult life as an educator in a classroom. For near 15 years there have been very few days that I haven’t spent time handling multiple horses on my property. It has been my experience that one size does not fit all and as such prescribing, lecturing and criticizing about it in pixel-land is pointless. I usually use Charlie Whittingham as that to which to aspire. He used and eventually bought a place called El Rancho Murrieta and had his brother Joe running the place. There were turnout areas and he sent horses there periodically, not all but some. It wasn’t the track but it also wasn’t Club Med for horses. Does that count as Farm Time? Frank and David Whitley used Camden, SC when some of their horses were not at the track. Would that be considered Farm Time? I’m not advocating any particular type of training. Trainers do what works for them and if an owner doesn’t like that, they have choices.MySaladDays wrote: ↑Tue May 21, 2024 3:54 pm Well Curtis, If you have to ask then its not a discussion i care to have with you.

If I recall correctly she treated Smarty jones after he injured himself pretty seriously in the gate when he was 2 or 3.
She had high praise for him.

If the trainer thinks a horse should rest but the owner doesn't have a farm for the horse to go to, does the owner or the trainer have to find a farm? Maybe that's why some of the horses stay at the track, because the owner doesn't have a farm and the owner doesn't find one for the horse to rest at? I assume the owner has to pay for boarding.

I remember back in the day, if a horse really needed turnout in so. CA, it could be done. Three Rings Ranch in Beaumont had some Whittingham horses, HOF’er Ancient Title, who was trained by Kieth Stucki, did some time there, I think each year during his career. Stucki had another stakes horse named Battery E that spent downtime there. Three Rings Ranch, who was owned by Connie Ring, raced horses and she used Roger Clapp to train for a long while, so it could be done and I’m sure it wasn’t free. Bobby Frankel, who I venture to say never touched a horse until he left High School, pretty much kept his horses at the track unless it was pointless because they were too banged up to be close to running. He had a hideaway or two. Again, if you know your horse, chances are you know what they need. Sometimes a horse is just done. When Lava Man’s owners started pushing O’Neill to farm him out for awhile, the horse probably could have spent time on the moon and it wouldn’t have mattered. It probably also should be noted that Lava Man was reportedly quite happy working at the track when he wasn’t jumping in shows for years after he competed in his last race. Depends on the horse.CoronadosQuest wrote: ↑Tue May 21, 2024 6:17 pm If the trainer thinks a horse should rest but the owner doesn't have a farm for the horse to go to, does the owner or the trainer have to find a farm? At least from my experience at the track, most trainers have their go to farms, in Ocala, Kentucky, etc. that they will recommend that owners send the horses to. They may not own the farm or have any financial stake, but they have existing relationships with the farm owner/in house trainer and trust that the horse will be in good hands with a constant flow of communication,CoronadosQuest wrote: ↑Tue May 21, 2024 6:17 pm If the trainer thinks a horse should rest but the owner doesn't have a farm for the horse to go to, does the owner or the trainer have to find a farm? One of the good things I can say about mrh is they are pretty consistent when it comes to ensuring horses get regular breaks. Outside of injuries or layups, all of the ones I have with them seem to get breaks yearly. Chasing time is on his break now. Here's the kicker is coming back from oneFlanders wrote: ↑Mon May 20, 2024 11:01 pmThere isn't time for him to have ever had a break, he's been in training for over a year straight. He ran on November 25th and on January 1st. There are no breaks in his workouts since May 2023. Add to that, he'd have been in training before his first workout for awhile to build up to that work. I also think breaks are important for a horse to just mentally refresh. But its also on the owner, they can say hey we want the horse to have a break. Myracehorse did for Seize The Grey, otherwise I guarantee he wouldn't have gotten one either.MySaladDays wrote: ↑Mon May 20, 2024 9:51 pm For me it is not really about running them back in 2 weeks.
Im fine with that.
But Just Steel hasn't had time off at farm to refresh since December '23.
I guess some people dont think that is important but it is. he ran every single prep at OP as well. Never won a race past 6f.

I think this really helped STG -hope his break was enough to keep him going the rest of the year.TapitsGal wrote: ↑Wed May 22, 2024 11:27 amOne of the good things I can say about mrh is they are pretty consistent when it comes to ensuring horses get regular breaks. They want to run seize the grey through the Pegasus cup at least. Michael behrens mentioned that and the California crownNorthport wrote: ↑Mon May 20, 2024 12:45 pmThe Spendthrift gang were also at McPeek's barn the day after the Derby, so I would say we know where Mystik Dan is going to end up too. Hopefully Mystik Dan gets another season or two of racing. However, considering Spendthrift already has a stake in Seize the Gray, I would be shocked if he races on in 2025.CoronadosQuest wrote: ↑Mon May 20, 2024 11:21 amand Spendthrift was checking him out yesterday so I would not be shocked at all if he is standing there in 2025

Just Steel update....https://twitter.com/i/status/1793391201338773832
I've found it easier to tear up tickets at 8/1 instead of 8/5.

Just so I’m not accused of baiting anyone with a one-liner, I gotta tell ya’ I don’t know what ChatGPT is. Do you think it’s too public or not public enough? Since this brings me to 4 lines on my phone, I should be good.

This an all the rage AI writing app- you can google it-you ask it to write something, give a bit of info and poof there it is for you to edit. Is helpful for some things such as rewriting some of our agency copywriters’ poorly written work but as always editing is important. You can tell it was written that way due to an overly formal tone sometimes and it can be overly detailed or writes in cliches. Once you see a few is pretty easy to recognize. Re: the video I appreciate LU Racing having Dr Bramlage coming on to discuss the surgery, although I would love to have seen the pre and post-op radiographs and more detail on the surgery. This kind of transparency is what is badly needed in racing for the fans.

Thanks! Since it lacks my satirical impudence, it’s safe to say I had nothing to do with it.Squeaky wrote: ↑Thu May 23, 2024 2:28 pmThis an all the rage AI writing app- you can google it-you ask it to write something, give a bit of info and poof there it is for you to edit.
