Are stallions that are at this height or even taller generally avoided in the industry, or are they just rare to come by in-general? You do not see many of them listed in the stallion registries, as I believe the only recent examples are the deceased Mr. Big and Mucho Macho Man.

At some point I heard that most farms either don't list the height or they say 16.3 for stallions that are actually 17h+.

Dynaformer gave us some big sons, like Melbourne Cup winner Americain and Mr. Big.
Sadly, we have lost both those handsome stallions, Americain in 2022 and Mr. Big just recently.
Dynaformer may have other sons out there who also measure 17 hands or over, but I can't remember atm.

Yes, his grandsire Quack was also 17 hands plus.

Uncle Mo is listed 16.3, but is definitely 17, if not a little more. Same for Quality Road.

Unbridled's Song was 17 hands and I believe his sire Unbridled was, as well.

Another current, albeit not overly popular, stallion who's over 17 hands is The Player.

Imperialism is ginormous, the polar opposite of his son Imperial Hint. Both seem to have found more favo with QH breeders than TB.

Temple City and Midnight Lute are also big boys, not sure if 17+ or not, but deff of the bigger sort. I'm sort of a small person though, so it might just be from my point of view. :D

Huh. I saw Imperialism back when he went to stud in 2006; I didn't think he was all that big (I'm 5' 8"---17 hands!---by way of comparison.) Certainly not as big as Tiznow, whom I've also seen in person and is a legit 17 hands. I also saw Dynaformer on the same trip and he was about as tall as Tiznow though more massive.

Biggest Thoroughbred I've ever seen personally was Scottish Halo, who was 18 hands if an inch. He looked as though he should have been pulling a beer wagon. Fortunately for everyone involved with him, he had the disposition of a puppy dog instead of his granddaddy Halo's attitude. He last stood at stud in Oklahoma for $1,000.

16.3hh per Google. I haven't noticed that he would be much bigger than the average other boys at Ashford when we visited.

I looked him up, and found this old article stating he might be around 18.2 or 18.3. That is definitely a giant! His old stallion registries from Florida never had details on his height.

He was a beauty. I saw him when he was entering stud in Florida, still gray and all dappled out. Had a really nice walk too.

When I click on that link, I'm taken to his pedigree, and I can't find any photo of him that might elicit a "Unicorn!" remark. :?

Open the description/achievements panel of the pedigree and then roll your mouse (or finger lol) over the image symbol. Better yet, here's the picture. I wish I could read the photographer's name.

Obviously I don't own this pic lol.
