Super Mares

My ongoing project about mares that have produced two or more classic winners got diverted a little into another little project. It was shorter, more or less.

I finally 'finished' the Classic Female Families project I had going, with tracing female lines of winners of Triple Crown (old and new) race winners of the US, England, Ireland, France and Germany. I almost did Italy, but I came to my senses in time. I also added Breeders' Cup winners, Jockey Club Gold Cup winners, King George VI & Queen Elizabeth Diamond Stakes winners, Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe winners and am just getting started on Melbourne Cup winners, and oh yes, I do take breaks from it all sometimes or I will go mad. Allergy season makes it worse. Of course, for me, allergy season is like basketball season -- it never ends. Right now it's cedar pollen. Yah-boo.

(I've been absent for a long time. My mother died back in December 2022, I was working to the point of madness until the madness caused me to get fired in June of 2023 and I finally got a job that, frankly sounds more fun at a little fishing/camping resort in my ancestral stomping grounds in Tow (as in cow), Texas, which I'm starting next week as part time but will become full(er) time at Spring Break and summer. But in all that time, I kept up on my projects to feel like I'm doing something)

Anyway, I started looking through the female lines project and became interested in mares that won Classic races and went on to produce classic winners themselves. So... here they are in all their radiant glory!

Thanks. One comfort I have about Mom's passing is that she's with Dad now, probably scolding him for playing Johnny Cash too loud in heaven. I don't need to worry about her any more, and we were all better prepared (but not at all ready) for her to go home. I do miss her a lot. Like last night, I would have been telling her about the Super Mares project and she would have just nodded along like she always did when I started babbling about my pedigree projects.

One thing is certain about losing a parent: you might as well be eight. I told my oldest brother, just after she died, that the four us are orphans now.

Still need to do edits on this little side-project - full sire/dam/broodmare sire info, colors, country of birth, family numbers, Linkin profiles, favorite foods, pet peeves, etc. Then it's back to going through the chart and finding classic winning stallions who sired more than one classic winner. That'll be fun, and I've already sort of started on it but will have to do a lot of updating now that the project is 'finished' (save the Melbourne Cup). At this point, I think Montjeu has taken the lead in the highest number of classic winners, unless it's Galileo or Sadler's Wells. You can't swing a dead cat over your head without hitting a classic winner sired by one of those three. It can start to get to you, really. I have dreams about being chased across a field by a bay horse with a white blaze and lots of 'tude.

Just for funsies and because I'm fixing to go for a looong drive up into the boonies of Llano/Burnet Counties in the Texas Hill Country, as a break from sitting down too long.

There are 492 classic (Triple Crown race) winners in family #1 and its branches. And that's just up to 2023, of course. I've little doubt the number will increase as time goes on.

Into the home stretch on this part of the project. Scads of mares have been found who won a classic and foaled a classic winner. I just started on Japan a few days ago and have finished the Japanese 2000 Guineas (Satsuki Shō) and am plowing through the Japanese Derby (Tokyo Yushun). I think I'm at 197-something. I don't remember. I'm tired. I need a nap. Also, I'm starting a new job this coming Monday so I'll be busy with that. But I will work on the project on weekends and when I have enough energy for it. I'm not good enough at HTML coding to figure out how to post the list mare and their foals, but I'll figure that out somehow. Frankly, I need to look into just starting a webpage...

My job hunt continues. Almost had a job, but it was going to involve hauling heavy things around and I just can't do that. Not after back surgery for a herniated disc, that's for sure. Before that, two job scams (there's a special place in Hades for THOSE people!). So it's back to the hunt. I

Now I've finished this project out, I can focus on Melbourne Cup winners, but at a slower pace. I'm pretty well worn out from job searches and allergies.
