Heaven knows we need all the older dirt stakes horses that we can get. Must've had another big setback to retire him this time of year.Starine wrote: ↑Fri Feb 23, 2024 10:55 am Grade 1 Winner Slow Down Andy Retired

The connections hope Slow Down Andy can begin a stud career this year despite missing the start of breeding season.
"There's nothing on the table yet, but we're hoping there's options and he can breed some mares this year," O'Neill said. "If I had a mare, I'd breed to him."

It's a disappointment for sure but I think if they said "he has nothing left to prove" I wouldn't fight them on that.

It drives me nuts when they say "champion" or "he's done enough." Good example to me is Corniche he barely raced

Do we have any good sons of Tiznow left standing here in the US?
Feels like Korea snapped up most of his best sons, like Tizway, Tiz Wonderful and Colonel John.
I think Tizdejavu is still here, but has he had any success?

not really. his best son at stud is Tourist, who only has two G3 winners and has of course received the good old boot-to-the-ass from WinStar. he has other 6 in the BH Stallion Registry but none have really done anything. Tizdejavu has been pensioned since 2018.BaroqueAgain1 wrote: ↑Tue Feb 27, 2024 8:27 pm Do we have any good sons of Tiznow left standing here in the US?

Tizamagician has not have any foals arrive yet from a small crop, so he might be one of the last holdouts as far as a Tiznow son. I believe Slew's Tiznow was "unpensioned" at Rancho San Miguel for this season. I read that remark near the back of the CTBA 2024 Stallion Directory.BaroqueAgain1 wrote: ↑Tue Feb 27, 2024 8:27 pm Do we have any good sons of Tiznow left standing here in the US?

According to bloodhorse there's none at any major ky farms. It stinks if I recall Tiznow was one of the few sires in the us carrying the man o war line, which in turn goes back to the godolphin arabianBaroqueAgain1 wrote: ↑Tue Feb 27, 2024 8:27 pm Do we have any good sons of Tiznow left standing here in the US?

He has some sons in the regional market. I wouldn't go as far as calling any of them good though. Tourist was his only one on the 2023 General Sires List and he was around 120th. According to Bloodhorse, Tiznow has 2 that haven't had foals to race yet. Tour de Force who stands in Alberta, Canada has 10 2yos in his first crop. Tizamagician stood his first year in 2023 but only got 12 mares. He has some grandsons in regional markets as well.BaroqueAgain1 wrote: ↑Tue Feb 27, 2024 8:27 pm Do we have any good sons of Tiznow left standing here in the US?

The entire Godolphin Arabian sire line is in dire straits overall, not just Tiznow's line. There are some representatives here and there around the world but its not good. Its in better shape than the Byerly Turk line but its going that way.

Bertrando is another representation from that line, but I believe none of his sons replicated his success at stud, too. Same for useful regional stallions like Skywalker, Flying With Eagles, and Spinelessjellyfish. As the foal crops shrink, so is the genetic diversity. Unhealthy.

Mr. Big (Dynaformer - Fashion Delight) was euthanized yesterday due to complications from laminitis. He was 21.

This is a big loss to the breeding industry out west (no pun intended).

Nice story on mineshaft. He's one of my favorites. Bill Farish said in the article he's probably in his last year of stallion duty

It is. Didn't get much opportunity in Kentucky, moved to California, and it helped him tremendously. Definitely a big loss.Mylute wrote: ↑Wed Feb 28, 2024 11:59 am Mr. Big (Dynaformer - Fashion Delight) was euthanized yesterday due to complications from laminitis. He was 21.

Not surprised. He's getting a bit long in the tooth, and if low sperm counts don't get them, arthritis in the neck, back, and hocks often makes pensioning a kindness.TapitsGal wrote: ↑Wed Feb 28, 2024 12:11 pm https://paulickreport.com/news/bloodsto ... vOG2iUgvKg

Losing Irap in 2017 really stank. I'd had high hopes both that he might make a good 4-year-old and that he'd do well at stud, being a half brother to Speightstown.Flanders wrote: ↑Tue Feb 27, 2024 9:23 pmHe has some sons in the regional market. May be some hope for survival of the Man o' War male line in Brazil, where Put It Back was a multiple champion sire; his champion son Pimper's Paradise (gag, I hate that name) is in the stud now. Gemologist is in Chile and has been a top-ten sire there for the last four years, but I think most of his best have been fillies. Honour and Glory sired several Group 1 winners in Argentina, but none of them have shown much as sires so far.
