Thanks wish there were a bit more details but glad she continues to do well. Avoiding infection around the hardware and laminitis are the big watch outs for the next few months.Starine wrote: ↑Thu Jan 11, 2024 8:12 pm Update in the second half of this article:

Assmussen said on Steve Byk’s show today that they are in no rush for her to join the Winchell broodmares in Kentucky for the rest of her rehab while it’s still winter. So even once she is off stall rest, if it’s still icy and snowy in Kentucky, don’t be surprised if she stays in California a bit longer.

I think they are skipping the breeding season this year which is a smart decision. I hope she continues to recover well and that they keep sharing updates. Would love to hear from the vet in charge of her care too.Northport wrote: ↑Mon Jan 22, 2024 11:01 pm Assmussen said on Steve Byk’s show today that they are in no rush for her to join the Winchell broodmares in Kentucky for the rest of her rehab while it’s still winter. What a tragic loss of such a great filly, especially when her recovery was going so positively

Yep. Not enough room between her and the wall to get her legs underneath her to push herself up. They start panicking and kicking… terrible injuries can happen. If that’s the case, she might have done more damage to her injured leg.
Really sad.

Like Brunanas said, most likely rolling to close to the wall, thus getting legs stuck in the air. Then they can't finish rolling and they can't roll back. Then they panic because they feel vulnerable or know they can't stay laying like that and injure themselves. Even if they don't freak out, being stuck in that position can cause internal damages and lead to severe colic and death that way. Its a horrible situation. And it can happen outside too, if they choose to lay or roll in a weird spot. Sheep, cattle, goats and probably other animals can get cast as well.

I've found it easier to tear up tickets at 8/1 instead of 8/5.

Oddly enough, a few days ago I saw a post on some walking/countryside FB page from England advising walkers that if they saw a sheep on its back, to try and roll it onto its side so it could get up. So it can happen even in open country. Didn't Nashoba's Key fatally injure herself like this?Flanders wrote: ↑Mon Feb 19, 2024 3:51 pmLike Brunanas said, most likely rolling to close to the wall, thus getting legs stuck in the air. I ran marathons. I saw the Taj Mahal by Moonlight. I drove Highway 1 in a convertible. I petted Zenyatta.
