That's unfortunate. He was a handsome horse with some talent.
With his pedigree, it is too bad he didn't succeed as a stallion. :(

I am very sad about this. I remember when he was born and they almost lost his mom. How we followed his progress. That it was laminitis is very sad.

Yes, the adventures of Chili and Taco. What joy following them brought all of us.

Poor Taco. He seems to have been just a hard luck horse all around, with the medical issues that hampered his racing career and everything. I was really hoping he’d sire some special foals.

(I am also annoyed at commenters on FB who smugly said they’d always managed to bring horses from laminitis and obviously racing people don’t care enough to bother with special care to keep him alive. Yeah, some racing people would, but it seems out of character for Stonestreet, especially for one of Rachel’s babies.)

Jess's Dream was a hard one for me. I had to watch his maiden win again, it made me immensely sad and it brought back memories of the day he ran. How I was like well he is hopelessly beaten, there is no way he'll even hit the board. And how impressed I was that he somehow made up all that ground so late to win.

Looking at his fertility rates, I'm pretty sure that was why he was pensioned. As the last year he had a RMB submitted(2022) he only had 39% live foals but the previous couple years he was only in the 50s% for live foals.

As for the Facebook comments, this is exactly the reason some connections don't release information about horses dying or being injured. They get judged, people make asinine comments. I'm sure it wouldn't have mattered what the cost was. They would have spent it if there was a chance he would have survived. I would never question Stonestreet's commitment to their horses.

Stonestreet is one of (if not) the best in the game. It makes me so emotional. Barbara Banke is one of the kindest, most pure-hearted persons I've ever met and it's so unfair that they lost Taco. He was really special to them :(

Russia's Sekrekov Stud posted to their Instagram story that Victory Face (Afleet Alex - Calldara) has passed away. The mare is a 4xG1W domestically and won four other G2 and G3 events.

The 14 y/o has produced Lina (by Seattle Moon) who won the 2021 Nalchik Oaks (RUS-G1).

Given the time of year I wonder if she died due to foaling complications; the Instagram post did not specify.

Two horses died whilst training at San Luis Rey on 2/4. Adventuresome from a musculoskeletal injury and Exceed Speed Limit from a non-musculoskeletal injury. Both causes are still pending on the CHRB site.

OH NO!!!!
That beautiful mare was one of the best racehorses I have had the pleasure of watching, and it is a tragedy that she has been lost so young.
ETA: An article from Australia:
https://www.racenet.com.au/news/melbour ... s-20240218
It contains the grim news that the foal, her first, also died.
Dammit.
