Well wouldn't you know it...both of these guys are entered in a race at Meydan on Friday. Race 6, a handicap 10 furlongs on dirt.

They are both being trained in Dubai by Doug Watson.

Significant dispersal sale of jumps horses coming up in Ireland it was announced unexpectedly today! Horses include a Grade 1 winner as well as hopefuls for the Cheltenham Festival.

The owners have decided to disperse their stock after losing two horses within the space of several weeks, they are taking a break from the sport.

The owners shared a statement on X (formerly Twitter) on Thursday evening following the news. The statement posted on the @caldwell_horses page said: “Further to the sad loss of one of our young horses D B Cooper again as a family we are absolutely heartbroken. Also we lost Smooth Player only just 2 weeks ago. Having a young family it’s hard to cope with such losses and therefore we feel it is time for a break from the sport

“We would also like to thank Gordon and his team for their hard work and support the last few years and wish them all the best.

That is huge and very sad news. They were major supporters of the sport and Gordon. They also lost hugely promising Mighty Potter last season, so they have had their fair share of bad luck. Except for partially Paul and Clare Rooney a few years ago, I can’t remember a big jumps owner so quickly and publicly pulling out of the game due to losing their horses. Can’t blame them at all.

It is terribly sad they lost those horses. However, having a notable owner leave the sport, while publicly stating it's because too many of their horses DIED, is not going to go unnoticed by the PETA types in Britain, I suspect.

Yeah, it's confusing.
But I suspect that UAE has realigned its key races and schedules this year, as the Saudi Cup Day meeting (Feb 23rd & 24th), which also sets up for the DWC Day meeting (March 30th & 31st), has been increasing presence most recently.
The G1 Jebel Hatta on turf has also been moved forward to Jan 26th this year from March 4th in 2023.
And Dubai Carnival has now only one race run under the name of ''Al Maktoum Challenge'' (for thoroughbreds) this year which is won yesterday by the California Chrome colt.
