I did a project on these in school a while ago. The males dig a hole/nest in the ground and scream until a female is like okay, this is the one. If the male won’t find a female to mate with, he will try to frick anything that is close to his “nest” - rocks, people… much interesting bird. Very cute.Mylute wrote: ↑Thu Jan 11, 2024 12:50 pm So this is the kakapo, the bird that "saved" Early Voting. It looks like if a parrot and an owl had a baby, which is why it is also called an owl parrot.

TBF dogs hump legs and I had a pet rabbit that used to hump people’s feet so it’s not that shocking. If anything I think most males of any given species will try to mate with humans.
Also I think it’s a bit unfair to call kakapos “dumb”, this comes due to lack of fear towards humans and mammalian predators. Being isolated on an island with no terrestrial predators has caused their fear of humans to disappear along with their ability to fly. Many animals on isolated islands like the dodo bird and warrah (penguin wolf) lose these survival instincts. When an animal evolves thousands of years isolated from humans they lose their unborn fear, and are very vulnerable to introduces species like rats and cats that they haven’t encountered in their natural history.

2021 — 92 mares bred, 28 live foals (30%)
2022 — 44 mares bred, 16 live foals (36%)
and then he bred just 2 mares last year.

International Sensation Falbrav Dies in Japan at Age 26
https://www.bloodhorse.com/horse-racing ... -at-age-26
Falbrav came up a bit short as a stallion, but as a racehorse he was world-class. Group I's in Italy, Hong Kong, England, Japan and France.

Chrome is currently the Leading 2nd crop sire in Japan thanks to Wide Latour's stakes win. I hope his Japanese-bred offspring continue to move him forward in the standings.tachyon wrote: ↑Sat Jan 13, 2024 2:35 am California Chrome(USA) sired his first stakes winner in Japan, as his 3yo filly Wide Latour(JPN)[o/o Wide Sapphire(JPN) by Agnes Tachyon(JPN)] of his first Japanese crop won impressively the Listed Kobai Stakes 1600m turf at Kyoto on Jan 13th 2024!

Interestingly, although Chrome achieved only modest results with his US offspring, he has been an international success in Chile, Argentina, Russia and, of all places, Uzbekistan. One of Chrome's Kentucky bred colts, named Kabirkhan, is a national hero in Uzbekistan having won 8 of 9 races in dominant style. He just won a handicap in his first race in Dubai in excellent style and is being pointed toward the Dubai World Cup. Even though he would be a longshot, that's the stuff dreams are made of.

New Recruits in Demand at Spendthrift

two points i wanted to touch on:
would've spent less saliva saying "we don't give a shit about the health of the breed". but i'll use his quote to say we can never have too much Scamsh*t slander around hereKP: Last year you added dual Grade I winner Cyberknife to your roster and now this year you have Taiba. What has the demand been like in offering two new sons of Gun Runner to breeders within two years?
MT: Well we say around here that you can't have too much Into Mischief blood, but you also can't have too much Gun Runner blood.
so, they're basically saying they will pump him with 180 mares (not counting additional covers for these) in 2 months and that is apparently gentle for them. expect his report to have at least 230 mares bred. it's beyond me how it seems they think that number is an easy number? Now we have Taiba standing for $35,000 and he sold out in about an hour. It was crazy, the demand for him. We've got him at 180 mares. We'll get to mid-April and see how he's breeding and if it's going well, we'll slide some more in.
