'You never know how big their hearts are' - the remarkable tale behind Panthalassa's distaff line

https://www.racingpost.com/bloodstock/n ... hC3O5OlSd/
The $20 million Saudi Cup triumph of Panthalassa not only shone a light on the potent power of Japanese racing and breeding but also took the lid off the remarkable story behind the six-year-old's distaff line, most notably in the form of his dam Miss Pemberley and her full-sister Aubusson.

Looking more closely at his pedigree, Panthalassa hails from the powerful Claiborne Farm female family of blue hen mare Bourtai, by Claiborne stallion Stimulus, widely recognized as one of the great foundation mares of the 20th century in the United States.

I don't think any other country has such legendary influencing stallions like King Kamehameha or Sunday Silence. Besides maybe great British and Galileo and maybe America's storm cat I can't think of any other legend who are continuingly to produce such legendary sons and daughters

I love tapit to death but his son's at stud haven't been all too impressive compared to grandpa. I think tapit is a far better broodmare sire. And I'm not too familiar with European racing

King Kamehameha(JPN) is an exceptional sire-of-sires that can only start to be compared with the great Sunday Silence-line in the Japanese racing history.
The son of Kingmambo has been responsible, as a sire, a sire-of-sires and a broodmare-sire, for about half of the JRA G1 winners since last year.
He has already had an immense influence on the Japanese racing and I believe that his descendants will extend it for a long time.
A sire-line can only thrive in the long run when the descendants beat the ancestors, which seems to be the case of the King Kamehameha-line.
He is already the best Mr Prospector in Japan.
And King Kamehameha's greatness will be realized further in the coming years, if the Japanese racing gets more attention and Japanese horses race more in overseas.

Will the King Kamehameha-line continue to dominate Japanese Classic scenes this year?

2022 champion juvenile filly Liberty Island(JPN), 2020F. Duramente(JPN) x Yankee Rose(AUS) by All American(AUS), won the G1 Oka Sho (Japanese 1000 Guineas) 1600m turf at Hanshin flying past rivals from the rear under Yuga Kawada on April 9th 2023.
She covered final 600m in 32.9!!!
Duramente(JPN)(King Kamehameha) sired Oka Sho winner two years in a row.

You are very welcome, Delamont! :D
I think it's fun to see a once-forgotten sire-line (Kingmanbo) revive and extend its influence.
It's also interesting to follow the intense battle between the sire-lines in Japan --- the Giant Sunday Silence vs Mr.Prospector /Kingmambo/King Kamehameha vs Roberto vs Storm Cat etc.

I believe that the sire ranking (in JBIS) is always a helpful guide to understand what's really going on in the Japanese racing and breeding below.

https://www.jbis.jp/ranking/result/?rid ... LjYwLjAuMA..

** this ranking above doesn't include money earned in races outside of Japan.
So, if the money earned by Panthalassa(JPN) in the Saudi Cup for example is included, Lord Kanaloa(JPN) is the outwrite leader at the moment.

Also, while Deep Impact(JPN) is still strong backed by his offspring out of super broodmares, many Japanese fans are now very much excited about two red-hot stallions -- Kitasan Black(JPN) and Duramente(JPN).
One represents the Sunday Silence/Black Tide and the other represents the Kingmambo/King Kamehameha!!

Once again, Duramente was a huge loss.
He could have easily been the champion sire in Japan.
I guess that Kitasan Black will become the stallion with the highest stud fee in Japan next season.

Duramente(JPN)(King Kamehameha) became the first stallion in history to sire multiple dual-Classic winning fillies in Japan!!
Even the great Sunday Silence(USA) couldn't achieve this feat.
And Duramente did it in two consecutive years!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Last year Stars on Earth(JPN) made the Oka Sho - Japanese Oaks double.
And this year Liberty Island(JPN) repeated the feat in much more dramatic fashion!!!!!!!

Liberty Island(JPN), 2020F. Duramente(JPN) x Yankee Rose(AUS) by All American(AUS), won very impressively the G1 Yushun Himba (Japanese Oaks) 2400m turf at Tokyo under Yuga Kawada on May 21st 2023.
Her sixth lengths victory has been the largest margin in the Japanese Oaks since Tesco Gaby in 1975.
She is simply the best!

Liberty Island(JPN)(Duramente/King Kamehameha) won the G1 Shuka Sho 2000m turf at Kyoto to become the seventh filly in history to achieve Japan's Triple Tiara under Yuga Kawada on Oct 15th 2023. :D :D :D
Masked Diva(JPN)(Rulership/King Kamehameha) was 2nd.

King Kamehameha(JPN) sired his own Triple Tiara winner Apapane(JPN) in 2010.
And his sons Lord Kanaloa(JPN) and Duramente(JPN) sired Triple Tiara winners Almond Eye(JPN) in 2018 and Liberty Island(JPN) in 2023, respectively.
Moreover King Kamehameha was responsible for a Triple Tiara winner Daring Tact(JPN) in 2020 as a broodmare sire.
What an achievement for the son of Kingmambo(USA)!!!!!

The King Kamehameha line must have got another solid successor, as Durezza(JPN), 2020C. Duramente(JPN) x More Than Sacred(AUS) by More Than Ready(USA), won his first graded title very impressively in the G1 Kikuka Sho 3000m turf at Tokyo on Oct 22nd 2023
He extended his win streak to five races improving his record to 6: 5-0-1.
Bred by Northern Farm and owned by Carrot Club, he is most likely to stand at Shadai Stallion Station when he retires from racing someday.
