Mystic Guide is odd looking. Shoulder appears very vertical, and the muscling on his hindquarters is strange. I know he was fast, but imho you wouldn't know it from his conformation.

His body is like...overweight/AQHA halter stallion but his neck is a skinny Thoroughbred. This makes him odd looking and like his head & neck were photoshopped on another horse's body.BaroqueAgain1 wrote: ↑Tue Dec 12, 2023 9:20 pm Mystic Guide is odd looking. Slumber looks really solid aside from his right front leg. What happened?

Really looks like it and also scarring further up on the right leg that might be more pinfiring. The right fetlock is pretty swollen. Then what looks like a random pretty fresh hole on the left hock.Miss Woodford wrote: ↑Wed Dec 13, 2023 12:25 am Scoutleo (Victory Gallop x Sopran Gath by Galileo) are those pinfiring scars on the fetlocks?
I hate pinfiring so much. I'm so glad HISA stopped it in Thoroughbreds in the US.

I don’t think those white background cut-outs do the horses justice.BaroqueAgain1 wrote: ↑Tue Dec 12, 2023 9:20 pm Mystic Guide is odd looking. Shoulder appears very vertical, and the muscling on his hindquarters is strange. I know he was fast, but imho you wouldn't know it from his conformation.

I personally hate white backgrounds especially if the horse has alot of white markingsIzvestia wrote: ↑Wed Dec 13, 2023 10:23 amI don’t think those white background cut-outs do the horses justice.BaroqueAgain1 wrote: ↑Tue Dec 12, 2023 9:20 pm Mystic Guide is odd looking. I think Darley is the only farm that does this, aren't they? But they have done it consistently for a long time now. I don't like it much either. I guess the thinking is that it shows off the horse's conformation literally from head to toe more clearly, but I don't know.....it just seems so unnatural to me that it's distracting.Akitaperson wrote: ↑Wed Dec 13, 2023 11:44 amI personally hate white backgrounds especially if the horse has alot of white markingsIzvestia wrote: ↑Wed Dec 13, 2023 10:23 amI don’t think those white background cut-outs do the horses justice.BaroqueAgain1 wrote: ↑Tue Dec 12, 2023 9:20 pm Mystic Guide is odd looking. Of course, on the other side, in shots done with a natural background, it's always bothered me when the horse is standing in grass that is clear up almost to his fetlocks. I find that off-putting as well.

That bugs me to and its not just thoroughbred breeders who like to hide the lower legs with grass

I don't care about hooves in grass because ultimately a breeder can request pictures of hooves and then go see the horse in person.

Of course, I understand that no breeder is going to invest thousands of dollars in a stud fee based solely on a single conformation picture! I get that! I'm just thinking of it from an aesthetc perspective with just viewing the pictures. Most of us here really enjoy looking at these conformation shots and then discussing them in the thread, making our own evaluations. Hooves and pasterns are important, and if you can't see them, then it sort of detracts from the exercise. Just my thoughts!
