Is winning the Kentucky Derby worth all the stress and wear & tear needed to get to that Demolition Derby gate? How many recent Derby winners end up having little-to-no decent race record after their big win? IMHO, what the 3yos have to go through for that one big win often destroys their careers afterward.

I’ve basically stopped caring who the Derby winner is and don’t think it’s as big of a deal to win it. The Derby winner isn’t typically the best of the crop and I’m trying to find late developers, mares and grass horses who stick around.

Yep. Really the only boys you can get excited about staying around are geldings really. The filly and mares are where it's at. Or overseas for the colts

Equinox is retired. sad we aren't seeing him as a 5yo, but at least he raced at 4 which likely wouldn't have happened in many other countries.

In Australia multiple G1 winner Nature Strip who retired only recently competed in a jumping competition today.

Probably a testament to trainer Chris Waller who often incorporates dressage and small jumps into racehorse training to keep "their minds fresh"

For a recently-retired sprinter to complete a clean round in his first competition of this kind? That was impressive.
He looked so relaxed and confident in his timing, you'd think he'd been doing this for years.
Every trainer should ask Waller for his training regimen, because imho dressage and small jumps won't just keep a horse's mind 'fresh' - it will also keep his/her body balanced and stronger.

Also 14 horses just arrived at Event Stars in New Zealand from HK (via quarantine) and got their first turnout in paddocks in (most cases) years. The video of their reactions on facebook is awesome.
