John Phillips said in this article why there was no announcement. Simply put, they loved her and her loss was too hard for them.

That was so poignant to read. I, too, was a fan of that lovely daughter of El Prado, sire of a host of wonderful sons.
Fans always say that they want the racing industry to care about the horses. But they seem to have blinkers on when favorite horses die, forgetting or overlooking how that might affect the people who care for and about her/him. We wouldn't think of being nosy (hopefully) when someone's human relative passes, understanding that it probably isn't any of our business. IMHO some fans cross a rather personal line when they start griping about not being told, not just on sites like this, but to whatever public portal an breeder/owner/trainer might have.*
We need to remember all those people out there caring for the horses, and that they may have a special, loving relationship with them. Our griping just be rubbing salt into wounds. :(
* Disclaimer: Outifts like Coolmore who NEVER inform the public may deserve the griping. There are always exceptions.

I was running through my master list of broodmares in the last month as I was massively overhauling it and saw that she had a death report on file for 2023. I didn't say anything because I thought maybe I just missed it when it was announced. I remembered she had been retired because of degenerative bone disease so I thought that finally caught up to her.

She was such a lovely race mare. I followed her dam, too. This is so sad, but I'm glad she was able to give them some nice fillies to pass on the legacy.

i think the shadiness of the industry is making a lot of fans jaded. not just sketchy practices on the track, but if Laoban could talk to us from the grave... so now, right or not, some fans get extra worked up when a horse dies, especially bigger names. i'm not saying the connections shouldn't have personal time to grieve, i just would appreciate a short little announcement, even if it's months after the fact. something like "Horse Name 20XX-20XX Loved and Missed". i don't even need a cause, an acknowledgment is plenty.

"She was surrounded by the staff and I held the shank.”

Okay well now I am crying. Announcements aren't required, and when they do come out, they are rarely so personal, so I can understand why Phillips didn't want to say anything at all. Information is great, but fans aren't entitled to it. Besides the aforementioned Coolmore mystique and WinStar under-the-rug sweeping, these horses are family members to a lot of people. Making a loss like that public is painful, you get a wave of calls and texts that are kind hearted but really just dredge the whole loss up over and over again. Condolences to the Darby Dan family.

Arcangelo is Modeling's first black-type performer. The mare's first foal, a gelding by Distorted Humor named Montmartre, is her only other winner so far. Modeling has not had a foal since she delivered Arcangelo in 2020 because of niggling health issues.

"She has been a project, but our broodmare manager Raul Garcia is phenomenal and has a sixth sense about the mares," Ringler said. "Right now, we are counting the days (to confirm pregnancy) on Munnings. Also, Modeling has one daughter that we thankfully own, and we are counting the days on Uncle Mo with her."

In the one of the article about Arcangelo’s retirement it says she is barren, did she not take?

Who is ready for Malathaat baby bump pictures? She also has a new BFF in G2SW Zaajel. Also some photos of Lahudood who is all dappled out and looking good.

Lahudood looks lovely. And for a pensioned broodmare with a dozen foals she's kept her figure remarkably well :D

Grade I Winner Bell's the One Loses Flightline Foal
https://www.thoroughbreddailynews.com/g ... line-foal/

Bell's the One (Majesticperfection), arguably the best horse to carry the silks of the late Bob Lothenbach and who was among the first book of mares bred to Horse of the Year Flightline (Tapit), lost her foal at the seven-month stage in September, her trainer Neil Pessin confirmed Wednesday.

We have a whole thread for 2023 breedings. She went to Maclean's Music though. :)

Blue Hen Starlet’s Sister has died. She was the dam of Sottsass, Sistercharlie, My Sister Nat, etc.

From the Facebook of Ecurie Des Monceaux (translated from French)

The entire team at the Monceaux Stables is saddened to announce the passing of Starlet's Sister this morning.

Starlet’s Sister was a 14 year old mare sweet and easy going with both people and foals. The rare gem every breeder dreams of. She has given us so much.

We have a special thought for our breeding team who deal with the mares and foals on the daily basis. They won't have the chance to make fun of his balling ears anymore. Or being upset that you didn't catch him in the meadow because it wasn't time yet.

We are all very sad but we will cherish the most memorable moments she gave us: the birth of 9 healthy foals. Sistercharlie's 7 G1 victories, Sottsass Jockey Club and Triumph Arc, My Sister Nat performances. And the ones we can still dream about: Shin Emperor's upcoming career, and his upcoming descendants.

Thank you Starlet's 🌟

I’m very sorry she gone. It’s poignant to hear an owner express their grief following the loss of a mare who was clearly loved instead of the complete silence we get from Coolmore.

they were at least bred for this year. i mentioned Megahertz a while ago and you said perhaps they just didn't bother submitting a no foal report but seeing these pics kinda shatters my hopes from that being correct.
