Lady Valentine, in training at GP.
Photo stolen from HRTV's FB page, which says: " A rare Thoroughbred registered as white, the 2-year-old filly has just a few dark freckle marks on her ghostly coat.
Lady Valentine is a daughter of Allamystique, a uniquely marked white stallion who is known for his colorful offspring. She is the first foal from the hard-knocking chestnut mare Evolutionary Lady, a winner of seven of 53 career starts."

She has her own article on Paulick, with another photo.

If she doesn't make it as a racehorse, she'll be headed for the show ring. No claimers.

Couldn't pay me to show her! I had a horse with the fairly common "armor" markings (chest, flanks, ears) and he was a beast and a half to keep white for a show day. Having NO color to cover it up? Hah, nice try!BaroqueAgain1 wrote:She has her own article on Paulick, with another photo.

That said, she's awfully cute. I'm so glad to hear there's a kid waiting for her when her racing days are over. That's a great fate for a horse.
Not a wholesome trottin' race, no, but a race where they sit down right on the horse!
Like to see some stuck-up jockey boy sittin' on Dan Patch? Make your blood boil? Well, I should say!

I'm amazed at how snowy white she is in the photo above...not a speck of dirt on her, except on that back hoof. She must have been bathed and groomed to a fair thee well before she stepped out on the track...and it looks like the photo was taken before she'd gone far.
And, yeah, keeping her that clean will be a full time job, because you know how much horses love to roll in the nearest patch of dirt.

I haven't backed through the thread to see if this has been posted before, but thought it might be of interest.

“Our analysis indicated that there are three major genes involved and that the complex interaction of these three genes determines the extent of white markings,” said Bianca Haase, PhD, genetics researcher at the University of Sydney and lead author of the study.

Thanks, Katewerk! That was interesting. Though I wish the study had drawn more applicable conclusions.Katewerk wrote:I haven't backed through the thread to see if this has been posted before, but thought it might be of interest.

LOVE this thread! There's nothing prettier than a Chestnut Sabino TB in my opinion. I've always followed the stallions known to carry Sabino (Big Brown throws a lot of white as does Kittens Joy and Freud over their crops. Some of my favs currently racing are Shug's horse Imagining and Nikkis Sandcastle. Here's another one...

The most interesting thing about that colt is that the brindle patten is only on one side.If anyone is interested his dam is Lotta Luv and is lot 108 in the sale,I will watch with interest to see who buys him.
Update:Sold for $40,000 to Mr PK Ho (Macau).

Interesting that the markings are only on one side. Also notice that the opposite hooves have the same color. Very unique.tonno100 wrote:Colt by Choisir at the New Zealand Premier Yearling Sale (their top sale)

The hoof color is determined by the color of the pastern and coronet. If it's white, there is a light hoof. If the hair is dark, there's a dark hoof.serenassong wrote: Interesting that the markings are only on one side. Also notice that the opposite hooves have the same color. Very unique.
