as always, my biggest FUCK YOU to Coolmore and co.
I echo the sentiment. In the articles they say "He quit finishing midway through the season". How many more mares were they going to send him???? They broke him mentally with the sheer number of mares or with whatever methods they used to "encourage" him to breed.

at this rate, he was very likely breeding 2-3 mares (almost) daily. it's disgusting. it's wild not many seem to see an issue with Golden Pal's numbers too. and then when their heart gives out, they'll be all like we are so heartbroken we could never see this coming

I'm still typing comments in another post that I haven't finished but I have a problem with anything over 140. The higher it is, the worse it is. That any horse covered over 200 or even approaching 300 is absolutely disgusting.

Oh the 7 mares are justified, I'm surprised he even saw that many. Outside of Saudi Crown he has sired no other stakes horse this year and his only other stakes winner died.

To see the horse who won the 2011 BC Mile, beating Goldikova, end up in Nebraska is a little sad.
Breeding TBs is not for the faint-hearted.
He has been moved around a lot during his career. He went Canada, Kentucky, Louisiana, and Nebraska but I also don't think he was ever popular. Maybe if his BC winner (Storm the Court) had ever done anything again, maybe it would have given him a little popularity.

Who bred almost 200 mares to Nashville? I just don't understand....

Nice to see, Epicenter, who wasn't even allowed to be turned out for the beginning of the season cause he was recovering from his injury, still managed to cover 262 mares.

Can't imagine Daredevil will be in the US much longer if he can only get 41 mares.

Still surprised Classic Empire was sold on, he got 118 mares and he had Angel of Empire this year. Most farms would be thrilled if their stallion pulled in over 100 mares and got a G1 winner....

I thought it was odd that Classic Empire appears to have been sold....as you said, he wasn't doing badly as a stallion. I would guess that somebody made the connections a HUGE offer that they couldn't justify refusing.

The stallion ad for Golden Pal running on Fandrool has Wesley Ward saying he was 'going to breed everything I have' to him. It seems like a bunch of other people did, as well.

the ???? numbers this year for me (as for 1st year sires) are Nashville, Pinehurst and Magic on Tap, i think. Nashville is the worst though — how on EARTH did WinStar manage to get 204 mares on his book for that fee? yeah, he is a fast son of Speightstown, yadda yadda yadda, but he is a listed winner who threw a bunch of clunkers. oh well.

today i reinjured my hip (AGAIN), which means bed rest, which means i'll be bored asf tomorrow. so i'll be making a Google Sheets based on a few categories. so far i've thought older stallions (suggested), per farm, per sire line, biggest drops and 2nd year sires (compared to their 1st year numbers). are there any other things you guys want to see?

Classic winners (Derby/Preakness/Belmont), Breeders Cup winners, Eclipse champions (there will obviously be some overlap).

btw, i hope y'all understand that Golden Pal's 293 were INDIVIDUAL mares. say 10% needed second covers, that takes his number to about 323. of course he could have crazy fertility and barely had to cover any mares more than once, but the opposite also can be true. anyways, fuck you Coolmore.

"Only" 152 for Flightline seems to show some restraint, since I suspect his book could have been MUCH larger.

They said they kept it at 152 on purpose and would do the same next year. Lane's End usually limits their stallions. However it all comes down to the syndicate that owns them. Same with Claiborne stallions.

I think you are way underestimating that 10%. I think easily its 2-3x that maybe more. Because a stallion with good fertility is only going to probably get 75% live foals. Sure some are lost in pregnancy but that happens a lot in early as pregnancy and then they can be rebred. Some mares take many covers just to get in foal. I pretty much guarantee when they had to pull Early Voting that the other first year boys were offered as replacements, if the owner wanted to go to one of them. I would guess he easily covered 400 times and probably much more.

I will be shocked if Always Dreaming is on the winstar roster for 2025. It also grosses me out that Early Voting was pulled from 2024 due to "inability to breed", how big was his 2023 supposed to be.

Horses like justify I worry about with the high books. I'm not a fan of justify and I'm even less of a fan of coolmore milking him dry. If shuttle stallions were asked to cover less per country I'd be happy. For example stallion covers 80 in their home country and then another 80 or so in another.
