He’s standing for $30k at Spendthrift

honestly — $30,000 for what? he only won one G1, has only 3 wins in 9 starts, his dam and granddam haven't produced anything other than Arabian Lion himself (though the third dam is Personal Ensign)... am i missing something here? but knowing Spendthrift he'll easily breed 215+ in his first year. idk, i wouldn't touch him with a 100ft pole at that fee.

Its the Justify thing. They have to strike while the iron is hot.

ARABIAN LION, G1 WINNER BY JUSTIFY, RETIRES TO SPENDTHRIFT
https://www.spendthriftfarm.com/arabian ... endthrift/

Leading 3-year-old Arabian Lion, who became Justify’s first Grade 1 winner after capturing this year’s Woody Stephens S. (G1) at Belmont, has been retired from racing and will enter stud at Spendthrift Farm for the 2024 breeding season. His introductory fee will be $30,000 S&N.

i think me and Spendthrift have different concepts of leading. :?

but isn't $30,000 excessive even if he's a Justify? there are probably many more 1x G1ws with better careers overall standing for way less, and some do have nice pedigrees.

Do I think its a lot? Yes. But I don't think they will have any problem getting him a huge book of mares. There are breeders that can't afford Justify's 200k fee but can afford 30k. If Nashville can stand for 15k, a G1 winner by a hot sire can certainly get 30k.

yeah, 100% . i don't expect any less than 225+. which will probably be about what Nashville got this year, too.

I think it would be different if he wasn't the FIRST G1 winner by Justify going to stud. But because he is the first, they can price him a little higher.

"Arabian Lion is a tremendous-looking individual and he showed real brilliance on the track. His win in the grade 1 Woody Stephens was arguably the best performance this year by a 3-year-old, and the speed figures back that up," said Ned Toffey, Spendthrift general manager.

Spendthrift got rid of 4 stallions (Cloud Computing, Mor Spirit, Free Drop Billy and Gormley) and right now they got 4 new stallions (Forte, Arabian Lion, Taiba and Zandon).

Gotta be one of the worst things I've read from Spendthrift, just second to them saying Into Mischief is the modern day Northern Dancer.

They've thrown out some good ones before. They also said Vekoma, who looked like he was breaking down everytime he ran, had beautiful and perfect conformation.
