He actually retired late last year/early this year and has been in Arkansas.

given he probably won't cover more than 10 mares a year and they will (all) likely have papers so empty you can see their fifth dam's produce, i unfortunately don't think that's possible. like, just looking at the RMBs for Wyoming based stallions for last year:

Eslin: 1
Wise Curlin: 2
Tenga Cat: 3
Chips All In: 4
Northern Soldier: 5
Typhoon Slew: 6
Potomac River: 8

he doesn't even seem to be the best among these guys. Chips All In (Northern Light) was a MG3W turned fair circuit claimer, Northern Soldier (Yankee Victor) was a G2W [like Dennis'], and Potomac River (English Channel) was a MG3W turned claimer. as for the others, Eslin (Empire Maker) only had 1 win in 31 starts and that was in a MCL, Wise Curlin (Curlin) was mostly a claimer, and Tenga Gat (Storm Cat) was G3P.
unfortunately Wyoming doesn't have the best stallions neither the best mares, and i'm not sure people in the nearby states will be sending much to him either. it'd be cool to see him succeed but it's very difficult.

Does it seem like many of these unexpected 'drop out of the race that was planned, take time off, then retire' incidents are after a horse was shipped a long distance for a race? I know horses have injured themselves during shipping, or reacted so poorly that they weren't shipped again (like Frankel & Zenyatta).
If Taiba had a bad experience shipping to NY, would that explain the delayed timing of his retirement? Maybe his connections kept hoping he would rebound?

I don't know that he even shipped to NY. I think the announcement was made after his subpar work in California, like a week out from the Met Mile. I think Baffert backed off him at that point but he had to be in light training cause he worked once in August.

Teena Ella is either retired now or will be before the breeding season. She hasn't worked in almost 2 months so I would guess she is retired.

Beholder's current 3-year-old filly, Teena Ella (War Front), became her first winner in February and then went one better by capturing the GIII Senorita S. in May. Toffey said she is the least impressive physically of Beholder's foals to date, as she is “somewhat short and compact, but definitely had a little bit of zip to her.” He said she was just starting to come into her own, but had some niggling issues and will be retired and bred this coming year.
