They had put their one farm up for sale earlier this year. I think the problem may be that they do really like racing and have let their program get way way too big. Sometimes the best way to preserve it is to cut back some or a lot in this case. As crazy as it seems they could probably sell 100+ mares and it wouldn't make a dent in their broodmare band.

They do own a couple more in partnerships, mostly with Coolmore. Can’t find how many they own in France though. I know they do sell some as yearlings, like War of Will.

I know they have mares in Australia, South Africa and Japan as well but no clue how many. Thank you, I somehow missed this article. I started following her because I loved Summer Squall and she was a really nice 2yo. Was sad she never got back to top form at 3.

At least 3, Godolphin sent Storm Song, The Caretaker(dam of G1s Dimitrova & Mutafaweq), and Anna Palariva(dam of MSW Advice, Iguazu Falls and G3/G1p Anna Salai(the dam of Adayar) to Japan to foal out their Dubai Millennium foals, then they were bred to Sunday Silence who died that year in May.

Nick Luck interviewed Alan Cooper, the Niarchos racing and bloodstock manager, yesterday. Cooper used the word “restructuring” so many times that Luck started to gently mock him a bit by the end of it. But yeah apparently Maria Niarchos is still very passionate about the game and everything being sold does have a reasonable reserve and they are happy to retain whatever doesnt meet their reserves. He said they plan on having around 75 horses in training worldwide next year.

Marsha, the Nunthorpe and Prix de l'Abbaye winner who holds the record price for a thoroughbred sold at auction in Europe, has died aged ten.
At the end of a hugely successful racing career highlighted by those Group 1 strikes, she was offered as a breeding prospect at the Tattersalls December Mares Sale and was bought by Coolmore for 6,000,000gns.

Her career highlight came two months later at York, when under Morris she nosed out Lady Aurelia and Frankie Dettori in the Nunthorpe.

I really doubt it. Its surprising we found out that she passed in a timely fashion. It took a long time to find out others passed.

I feel like if she wasnt originally owned by a large syndicate, we never wouldve been told. I’m sure Coolmore felt obligated to tell Elite, hence why Elite made the announcement.

why is coolmore so tight lipped abt this sort of thing? horses are fragile and have 1/3 of our lifespan. it's only natural you're going to lose them, eventually. something i try not to think abt as my favourites get older, tho.
