Desert Crown will miss a potential clash with Paddington and Mostahdaf in the Juddmonte International at York on Wednesday after sustaining an injury on the gallops on Sunday morning.

The Sir Michael Stoute-trained four-year-old pulled up lame after morning exercise and has been taken to the Newmarket Equine Hospital.

Bruce Raymond, racing manager to owner Saeed Suhail, said on Sunday: "He's got quite a bad injury and I'm just heading to the equine hospital now. He won't be running at York."

This horse has just been plagued by injuries. Hopefully he can be saved if its "quite a bad injury" like the racing manager says.

Hopefully it isn't life threatening, but I'm sure his career is over. With his pedigree and race record, hopefully he'll find a spot at one of the National Hunt outfits, though his soundness is a huge red flag.

Most of the euro pundits had been joking since Ascot that we wouldn't see him race again, guess they were right. Have a hard time recalling a big time European horse that had so many last minute withdrawals from major races.

apparently, Desert Crown's latest injury still isn't enough to retire him, as "he will not race again this year" was how Saeed Suhail's racing manager described the situation. cool...

Paddington goes for his fifth G1 win in a row later this morning in the Juddmonte International at York. There are only three running against him: Mostahdaf, Nashwa, and The Foxes.

Mostahdaf and Frankie take it wire to wire to win. Nashwa is second for a Frankel 1-2. Paddington was third.

I'm so pissed at Fandrool. I got up early to watch the race...but Fandrool didn't have the racing that they have been promoting all week long. It was a bunch of Boringball Bros blathering about ballsports instead. No racing.
It doesn't look like either Mostahdaf or Paddington will be headed to the Arc, so I wonder if their connections will try coming to the BC at Santa Anita? Distance and ground would suit those colts better than Longchamp's marshland.

I wouldn't be surprised to see them take a tilt at the BC Classic with Paddington. If he finishes off the board, not a huge deal. It didn't damage the reputations of Churchill, Gleneagles, or Galileo at all. If he runs well, like Giant's Causeway or Declaration of War, it could tick a huge box for him as a stallion.

Chuffed for Mostahdaf; I've liked him ever since I saw him win in Saudi Arabia. Heady ride from Frankie to sent him to the front straightaway.

I think he is best at 1-1/4 miles but nevertheless I'd give him a big chance in the BC Turf at 1-1/2 miles.

FS2 was live from York for two hours this morning. You could have seen the races there, if you get FS2, that is.

Galileo 1-2-3 in the Yorkshire Oaks (G1) as Warm Heart narrowly defeated Free Wind (who carried 9 lbs more than the winner). Savethelastdance was third.

Kabirkhan is no longer undefeated: today he finished second in the Krasnodar Grand Prix (RUSG1). The winner was Hero Mo (by Mo Town).

Silk Story finished 10th in a G1on the same card. The winner for that one was King Boy (by Lemon Drop Kid). He was widest of the field for most of the race and just kind of faded.

Chrome Blame has yet to run in 2023, but we don't really have a way of knowing if he's returned to training from his break.

It was confirmed earlier this week that Desert Crown has indeed been retired. He did come out of his surgery alright, though.

Zarak(FR)(Dubawi x Zarkava) sired his first G1 winner, as his 4yo colt Zagrey(FR) won the G1 Grosser Preis von Baden under Christophe Soumillon on Sep 3rd 2023. 8-)

Zarak also sired Parnac, the winner of Saturday's 1 3/8-mile G2 Flower Bowl for F&M at Saratoga.
