colt out of 3yo filly(uh mare) Beautyatitsbest

Foal was born at Belterra. Foal's sire is unknown at this time as the owner put her in a field with newly gelded horses last year when she bucked shins, the vet said it was okay(?????). But he is going to have them DNA tested to find the sire.
I had to do some searching to find this as I couldn't remember the mares name. I don't know if something happened to the foal but there is no registry under the dam for 2022. I was just wondering if they had found the sire yet. Maybe that is why the foal doesn't show up? I mean it couldn't only be whoever she was pastured with. Beautyatitsbest started posting workouts recently, her first since having the foal last year. One on June 24th, one on July 5th and the other on July 15th.

an update. https://www.thoroughbreddailynews.com/b ... s-mystery/ looks like they're not sure if they will get a DNA test.

Yeah I posted that same article in Fillies and Mares in the Racing section, since she was going to race soon. :)
I said the same thing. Reed blamed the owner, the owner blamed Reed. No one knows where the filly got in foal.

they'd probably match it with each of the males that could have gotten to her (inc. the recently gelded geldings). i think?

Yeah they would have to test any male horse that was at whatever location or both locations. The owner and ex-trainer can both say she got pregnant at the other place but they should be able to kind of pinpoint where she would have been.

I didn't realize it was that long ago but in 2000, Speak Compelling (a newly turned 3yo, gave birth in her stall at Philadelphia Park), she had ran 11 days earlier and did very poorly. They tried to figure out the sire of her foal but as she was bought at a 2yo in training sale, they had no idea if she was exposed their or earlier. They never found the sire of her foal. The mare was back racing within 3 months of giving birth(they pulled her filly) and she ended up running 50 times. The filly, Amazing Philly, was proven to be a thoroughbred and the Jockey Club gave her special permission foal papers to race but she couldn't be used for breeding. She only raced 3 times before getting cast in her stall and injured. Her owners retired her to be a pleasure horse.

That is what I was thinking. If the baby was full term, and she had arrived at Reed's training farm 8 months before foaling, that would guarantee she got pregnant at the owner's farm. Thinks would get murkier if she left out for Reed's farm during the month of conception.

yet another mystery we'll never get solved
