On an unrelated note, can someone check City Gift(dam of Maple Leaf Mel)? She hadn't been bred since 2020, she had an unnamed Brody's Cause colt in 2021. But her papers were reissued in September 2022, though that doesn't mean she was bred.
nothing yet
I'm wondering if she's still alive, because she wasn't bred in 2021 or 2022 and it's looking like she might not have been bred in 2023. Her last reported foal was a 2021 Brody's Cause colt.

Having said that, she last foaled in NY. I did a little checking and more than one big farm there hasn't submitted RMBs. There are several in FL that haven't, at least one major one in Canada and even one in KY with 6 stallions. Arguably the most prominent farm in Indiana hasn't reported. I can't find a single big farm in California that hasn't, though. You go, Cali.

She was bought by Canadian trainer Cole Bennett at Keeneland January 2021, the trainer that had bought the Ramseys' Queen's Plate winner Sir Dudley Digges at Keeneland November 2020(though he sold him without ever standing him). She foaled the 2021 colt in Canada, live foal was reported but he was never registered. I just assumed she was alive if someone paid to have her registration papers issued again in September 2022.

i've named her Lena. a very pretty girl with what, maybe 3 kittens inside of her? if not more?

I hope the mom likes you (and all the food you provide) well enough to let you handle and socialize those six kittens. It would be wonderful if they end up in homes, instead of the streets. Thank you.

unfortunately one of the kittens has died :( she has moved the remaining 5 to my backyard in a really safe place. it's not accessible by humans and dogs at all, which unfortunately means i can't see how the others are doing, but i believe she'd let me see them if they needed help. i'll be trying my best to lay a blanket as far as i can reach and also leave food and water nearby.

I can see one calico and then a pile of grey and black. I fear that means the kitten who died was one of the calicos. :(
I hope you can give them something soft to lie on...if you can reach into that safe little nook. Thank you for helping them. <3

Love the markings on the calico's head! Half of my tortie calico's face is black. Meanwhile we recently had a dark orange kitten show up at our house, so now we have 3 different orange "flavors" and one gray. All males.

Man, it isn't until I go through and check US-bred graded stakes winners, especially G1Ws, for breeding reports that I realize just HOW many mares Japan has acquired. It amazes me anew everytime

update - i have since moved them into the kennel. was a bit difficult to do, but i had noticed the white flower pot wasn't as secured in place as i thought it was + rain forecast. found mom eating in bed (food bowl placed close to them) while the babies nursed last night  i have given them cardboard boxes and multiple beds and blankets.

yup! i was checking some and so many had their addresses in Japan now. i mean... US racing will be really toast in a few years when they start bringing their progeny over for the big races. aaaand i won't really be upset about it.

While the stallions Japan has acquired over the years tend to get the most attention, imo it's the mares that they have bought who are making the biggest mark in Japanese breeding. Before Tapit became TAPIT, Japan purchased his best daughters, like Stardom Bound, Laragh and Tapitsfly. They could see the potential in Tapit's produce even before many Americans did.

I was checking the recent winners of a G1 race, I can't recall which, and like 8ish of the last 10 or so winners were in Japan now. It was insane
I was going through all the G1 winners I could think of just trying to find some that were still breeding but weren't in Japan lmao
