Michael Paulson bid against the other person supposedly, if I remember right. He RNA'd Azeri at 4.4m as well, then sold her for 2.25m later the same year. It was shady af.brunanas wrote: ↑Tue Aug 08, 2023 10:21 pmyeah, now that you mention it... i saw that he was a $7 million yearling RNA and then sold for $1.9 million as a 2yo. sure that's still a really high price, but i wonder what caused that big drop. did the clubfoot become more evident? or were his soundness issues starting to show?

Zedan just went to $3.2 million with another yearling (Into Mischief × All American Dream). you know, it'd be really nice if he had the same effort for aftercare. which he doesn't care enough about, as his horses either end up dead or injured for most of their careers before they get sent to stud. but i digress... whatever. not my money, not my monkeys? *slight pun intended... ahem The Green Monkey*

that's my favorite Tiz the Law from both of his crops. secretly hoping racing isn't his thing so i can hopefully snatch him as a Dressage prospect.

but does that still justify the drop? it's still a 5mi+ drop in a RNA. sounds like a lot (though the 2 million drop for Azeri is also a lot).Flanders wrote: ↑Tue Aug 08, 2023 10:27 pmMichael Paulson bid against the other person supposedly, if I remember right. There's a lot of unknowns as a yearling that might become more apparent as a 2yo, especially since they work out. I don't remember what he worked at the time, it had to be good enough to still almost get 1.9m but the 7.7m the year before was just too weird. Like maybe it was Paulson bidding against a friend to try and push up the price?brunanas wrote: ↑Tue Aug 08, 2023 10:58 pmbut does that still justify the drop? it's still a 5mi+ drop in a RNA. sounds like a lot (though the 2 million drop for Azeri is also a lot).Flanders wrote: ↑Tue Aug 08, 2023 10:27 pmMichael Paulson bid against the other person supposedly, if I remember right. I think the yearling price RNA price was more a reflection of the reserve than the horse himself. Michael Paulson didn't really want to sell him, but was kind of forced to by the next spring.brunanas wrote: ↑Tue Aug 08, 2023 10:21 pmyeah, now that you mention it... i saw that he was a $7 million yearling RNA and then sold for $1.9 million as a 2yo. sure that's still a really high price, but i wonder what caused that big drop. did the clubfoot become more evident? or were his soundness issues starting to show?

Maybe that is why I think he had someone bid up the price of the colt. There was a lot of bad press about him from a few years after his dad died in 2000 until the horses were sold. Which for anyone else who wasn't around then, Allen Paulson set the terms in his trust that the horses were supposed to be sold. It took almost 10 years for that to happen and in that meantime, Michael was buying more with the Trusts money.

This really makes me wonder if these trainers/ agents take advantage of these rich owners who really don’t know much about horses/ conformation.
