Yeah, after all the scandals involving drug use and other abuse of the UAE's endurance racers, I'd guess Sheikh Mo decided they needed to do some damage control. Being very public about how nicely they treat their retired Arabians was probably suggested by some savvy PR flack.

Sweet story about a pair of gray-haired elder gentlemen who won the amateur drivers' race at Cumberland this past Saturday. Only in harness racing...

It's a bit of a lull in TB racing right now but there is SO MUCH great harness racing this weekend. Saturday's big events at the Meadowlands will be shown on FS2, everything else should be on FanDuel.

Of note, Test of Faith will make the first start of her farewell season in the Perfect Sting. She's having an abbreviated campaign of 9-10 races before she hangs up her harness but will race all over the Grand Circuit. On Saturday she is facing Grace Hill, who is coming off an 8-race win streak, and last year's Dan Patch award winner Treacherous Dragon, among other excellent mares for what looks like the best race of the night.Schedule of events: The Grand Circuit weekend kicks off on Friday (June 30) at Yonkers Raceway, with the $300,000 MGM Yonkers Trot final, the first leg of the Trotting Triple Crown for 3-year-olds, the $250,000 MGM Grand Messenger, the first leg of the Pacing Triple Crown for 3-year-olds, the $115,000 Park MGM Filly Pace final for 3-year-old filly pacers and the $100,000 New York New York Mile for 3-year-old filly trotters.
Grand Circuit racing also takes place at The Meadowlands on Friday with the $35,325 Tompkins-Geers for 2-year-old male trotters, the $34,050 Tompkins-Geers for 2-year-old male pacers, and the $33.000 Tompkins-Geers for 2-year-old filly trotters. Then on Saturday (July 1), The Big M will host the $158,140 Dave Brower Memorial for open pacers, the $155,140 Crawford Farms for open trotters, the $142,260 Perfect Sting for pacing mares, the $112,500 Six Pack for trotting mares, two divisions in the $74,800 W.N. Reynolds Memorial for 3-year-old filly trotters and two divisions in the $70,300 W.N. Reynolds Memorial for 3-year-old male trotters.
Also on Friday, Harrah’s Hoosier Park will host the $115,000 Nadia Lobell for 3-year-old filly pacers.
Then on Saturday (July 1) and Sunday (July 2), Goshen Historic Track will host Landmark Stakes races for 2- and 3-year-olds of both sexes and gaits. The 3-year-olds will race on Saturday and the 2-year-olds on Sunday.

Meadowlands Pace is Saturday night! And a bunch of big stakes for the other divisions on the undercard. They'll be broadcast on one of the Fox sports channels as part of the America's Day at the Races programming.

A Canadian Standardbred trainer has been suspended 3 years over the suspicious death of a racehorse, Cams Lucky Sam. They don't say what happened though.

Happily, I was able to watch the clip. Couldn't read the Comments, which I'm sure were full of various versions of 'WOW.'

Today at the Meadowlands:
Tactical Approach won the Hambletonian in come-from-behind fashion at odds of 12-1.
https://ustrottingnews.com/tactical-app ... bletonian/
Top pacing colt Confederate won the Cane Pace.
https://ustrottingnews.com/confederate- ... cane-pace/
Bythemissal and Allywag Hanover got comeback victories in their divisions of the Sam McKee Memorial for open pacers.

The true star of the day though was 3yo pacing filly Sylvia Hanover winning the Shady Daisy, her 13th consecutive victory and 14th win in 15 lifetime starts.

I've noticed the absence of mule racing from the Cal Fairs' racing menu this decade and wonder if it's still being conducted (and bet on legally) anywhere these days. Elko (Winnemucca Fair) in Nevada used to run mules too, but I don't think that track has raced since the COVID shutdown. So what happened to apparently cause mule racing to go the way of appaloosa racing? Too few foals being bred/registered to sustain a full season of races?

That's a good question, and I'm curious as well. Come a long way from the days of Black Ruby ("best ass in the west") and her counterparts. For those who remember her, it's worth noting that she passed away at the age of 30 last September. 70 wins in 119 starts!. Loved that girl.WaquoitNBroadBrush wrote: ↑Mon Aug 07, 2023 12:13 pm I've noticed the absence of mule racing from the Cal Fairs' racing menu this decade and wonder if it's still being conducted (and bet on legally) anywhere these days.
