Perhaps I'm off-base here, as I'm not super familiar with European racing, but it seems to me like Auguste Rodin's reputation tends to precede his performance? It seems pretty odd that he was favored in this exceptional race off of his previous effort, which I thought was widely regarded as pretty disappointing.

Very exciting finish, though. Cool to watch.

Thought he almost had it -great race for him and Hukum. Hope August is ok.
Both Hukum and Westover ran great in a very exciting stretch battle to watch. :D 8-)
And I would like to say Westover flattered Equinox again!

I don't imagine that Equinox makes another overseas trip in Autumn. :(
It seems that his main target this year is the Japan Cup Nov 26th at Tokyo.

And Hukum's connections may choose the Arc over the BC.

4f Mqse De Sevigne (Siyouni) won the Prix Rothschild (G1) today at Deauville. Fittingly, she is owned by Baron Edouard De Rothschild.

Squeaky

No decision will be made for a couple of weeks about Westover next race

He is entered in the Irish St Leger of 1 mile 6 fur, the Arc and the breeders cup Turf..

He wont run in the Arc if it is heavy going

King Of Steel will drop back in trip to a mile and a quarter he is entered in the Juddmonte International and the Irish Champion Stakes both over 1mile 2 fur and will stay in training as a 4 year old

Jim Crowley has been given a 20 day ban and fined 10,000 pounds for overuse of the whip.

He hit Hukum 9 times 3 over the permitted 6

so both Westover and Hukum go for Arc - I would not expect to Hukum to go to BC as ground needs to have some cut in.
The BHA/JC have not helped themselves with the whip rule and Shadwell are far from happy lets see what the jockeys get - hope common sense comes to the fore

He broke the rules it was win at any cost never mind the horse

Arabs most likely pay his fine anyway

I wish we had the French rules maximum 4

But i agree with trainer Mark Prescott ban it altogether.

Ban whips altogether? Do you mean the riders would not be allowed to even carry a whip?
You do know that crops are needed for safety? To correct a horse who may be wanting to drift into another horse? Or swerve out on a turn, or into a rail? To cue a lead change?
IMHO, the people who want to get rid of crops entirely may not be familiar with actually RIDING a racehorse.

Yep. The whips aren't riding whips they're lighter

Several years ago whilst doing my MRes (equine health & welfare for context), I did my ethics presentation on banning the whip in racing.

There’s plenty of research out there highlighting the potentially detrimental effects on horses, including that it was found to increase the risk of horses drifting rather than being a helpful correction tool (this research included jockeys as well, not just scientists watching replays). It has also been linked with catastrophic injuries as well as horse falls.

On a side note, although there are claims that the padded whips do not hurt, a lot of people don’t consider (or are not aware of), the concept of allodynia. Where an object that would not usually cause pain, used repeatedly creates a pain response, potentially suggesting that repeated use of a padded whip will cause the horse pain. There still has not been research into allodynia and whip use unfortunately. Also it has been seen that even with padded whips, the unpadded shaft the whip is still making contact with the horse (over half of the study sample of just over a hundred horses).

Furthermore, skin deformation is still seen even with padded whips, this activates the slow-adapting mechanoreceptors in the cutaneous tissue of the horse, creating a reaction from the horse. If there is no activation of the mechanoreceptors, there is no or little response to the whip.

I think it would be very difficult to fully ban the whip. So I think jockey education is vital, especially in preventing injuries and falls. Especially when you get cases of horses dropping back through the pack, being whipped repeatedly only for them to breakdown or collapse fatally. The same with jump jockeys, continuing on tired horses, although this has improved a lot.

Also it would be beneficial to look at whether a whip that is fully padded can be produced.

Poor ride by the French Jockey on Blue Rose Cen in the Nassau Stakes.

She may not have won but if she was mine i would have booked Dettori or Murphy to ride her

Goodwood is a tricky course to ride not like the French tracks
