I am genuinely surprised that Coolmore sent none of their 2022 big purchases to their own stallions, they all went to Gun Runner or Into Mischief.

I am genuinely surprised that Coolmore sent none of their 2022 big purchases to their own stallions, they all went to Gun Runner or Into Mischief.

Gamine and Bellafina made sense to me. But Campanelle and a lot of the mares they raced and/or bred (who are turf-oriented) would have made more sense with Uncle Mo, Justify or American Pharoah IMHO. Or over in Ireland visiting Dubawi or Wootton Bassett.

My only guess is that they're trying to get some outcrossing. So many of their mares are Sadler's Wells or Galileo over Danzig-line (Danehill, War Front, Danehill Dancer, Fastnet Rock, etc.) or vice-versa. Gun Runner and Into Mischief are definitely that. And, while neither is free of Storm Cat, he is at least 3-4 generations back in their pedigrees.

You have to think at least something will hit from these matings, given the sire power and the quality of the mares. If not, then at some of the females might be good producers. It's going to be interesting to see how this all works out down the road.
