Why would they want to take an official conformation photo like that where the horse's hooves and half of his pasterns are hidden by grass? Could that be just making his fetlocks look puffy? I know I'm ignorant and a bit naive on this, but I don't understand why they don't shoot these conformation shots on a dirt pathway or something instead of burying the horse's feet in grass. In my ignorance, I just don't understand it.

This is just where Lanes End takes their conformation shots and they have used this same spot since the mid-90s. Before that it was the same difference, the stallions were standing in grass, A.P. Indy, Dixieland Band, Rubiano, and Summer Squall all have easily searchable conformation shots in the other location.Missbeholder wrote: ↑Fri Jul 07, 2023 10:36 pm Why would they want to take an official conformation photo like that where the horse's hooves and half of his pasterns are hidden by grass? And no I don't think its the grass making his fetlocks look puffy. I think that is just what he looks like. He does look a lot better overall than he did when the unofficial conformation shot was posted in here.

I remember someone commented about the feet in the grass on a new conformation pic that Lane’s End posted on facebook a few years ago, and Lane’s End legit replied something really snarky and rude. It was surprising. I’m not sure who manages their social media, I think one of the Farish daughters (Ande maybe?) but they didn’t seem concerned about offending a fan.
So yeah, they are aware of the complaints and dont really care. Though I guess if you are going to send a mare to a stallion for $50,000-$200,000, either you or your bloodstock advisor are going to go inspect the stallion in person

Oh I absolutely agree on that, Northport! My question was purely born from an aesthetic perspective. For the very reason you said, Lane's End apparently doesn't think that is a major concern. I just think it's kind of curious as to why they do this, especially when they have fielded complaints about it before. Just seems a bit arrogant to me!Northport wrote: ↑Tue Jul 11, 2023 3:00 pm I remember someone commented about the feet in the grass on a new conformation pic that Lane’s End posted on facebook a few years ago, and Lane’s End legit replied something really snarky and rude. Great Emperor is so lean that he looks like he just came off the track. I would hope that is so, because ribs showing on a stallion who has been retired for a while could make me think they feed him a bit frugally.

I am not sure when that photo was taken (he never competed in Russia and was just sold there after retirement) but here are two more undated photos:
