As a rule, if a place has a significant number of horses then it's gonna have horse racing. "I bet that my horse is faster than yours" is a universal human sentiment. Nick Luck interviewed one of the owners of the top stud farms there, the name escapes me, but she had inherited it from her father. She said that pretty much all the horses in India are bred by the top stud farms, it’s just not custom there for owners to have their own mares and to send them to stallions at the top farms. The stallions only privately cover mares owned by the farm theyre standing at.
