Frankie on a Frankel wins the Gold Cup! You gotta love it. Also happy to see that Courage Mon Ami is out of a Lemon Drop Kid mare.

Another high profile Royal Ascot win for the new Qatari outfit Wathnan Racing. Not sure who runs it but they bought at least 4 or 5 proven racehorses in the last few weeks.

Witch Hunter (Siyouni - Sorciere) wins the Buckingham Palace S. 50-1 I believe.

Valient Force upsets the (G2) Norfolk Stakes at 99-1 odds! Out of the late Malibu Moon and a Quality Road mare, Vigui's Heart.

Looks like American Rascal was 13th. I wonder if they'll give him another try on turf (worth a shot given the dam) or if they'll immediately put him back on dirt.

Sounds like the Wesley Ward fairy tale coming to an end. Was Irad back riding again after food poisoning or has he given up all mounts?

I’d think the fairy tale was over, but owners will probably keep footing the bill just to have the prestige of having a horse run at RA. How often do you get a chance to attend an event with the King of England?

Irad was back riding at Belmont today.

I don't know if its ever been a fairy tale. Its just been a neat story that gets attention because a US trainer consistently sends horses to Royal Ascot meet every year. Its rare that a horse ships from the US to race anywhere out of North America. He only has like a 11% win rate and 25% place rate in the UK(this is going to include other UK starts, I'm not even trying to only find Royal Ascot stats). Its not like Charlie Appleby in US races, who has a 41% win rate and 71% place rate. Ward has had success, its just really hard to ship a horse that far to run on a track that is completely different than what we have in the US. He is going to have years he doesn't win, especially when he only sent 4 horses this year.

Courage Mon Ami -- was it really just his fourth start in the Gold Cup? Remarkable. And I love that he is out of a Lemon Drop Kid mare.

In fairness, American Rascal was on the worst part of the course and got bumped pretty hard late. I'd give him a mulligan for this one.

But man, these races feel like playing the lottery. Gigantic fields with no rhyme or reason to the odds and huge longshot winners everywhere. It's fun, but it'd be more fun if the ADW streaming option wasn't so terrible. Can barely see any of the horses :(

Thanks for your stats as always 😊 It is interesting how the press/ racing broadcasts really play up the “Wesley Ward wins at Ascot” angle every year as the if he wins every race every year. Nice to see the evidence. 27 horses in a race is too many IMHO. Should split into 2 divisions in that case.

I think they do it cause it is a good story and he has had success. I was expecting his win % to be higher than it was before I checked it out, it was 12 wins in 102 starts in UK(from 2009-present). He has had a couple years that were really good. I just think like I said, its that its so rare for US horses to ship to Europe to race, I shouldn't have said outside of NA cause they do regularly go to Saudi and Dubai.

My Prospero was 4th and Alabama was 5th. Not too shabby for the latter. :D

King of Steel won the King Edward VIi S (G2). Very handsome horse—it will be interesting to see how he greys out.

Highfield Princess is running again in the QEII Jubilee (G1) tomorrow. I hope she gets a clear run this time.

How large is King of Steel? 17.2 hands? 1,300 lbs.?
Because he looked like Zenyatta passing a field of ponies as he went by the other horses. That is a BIG colt. :o
