Crazy how many farms are posting alternative contact routes on social media because of power and phone outages. I didn't realize how far spread this was.

We got pretty hard in my neck of the woods too. Several trees blocking roads and a local thrift store has its roof blown completely off and into the road. Several traffic lights were out on my route home from work. Four lane roads My mother went without power for nearly 24 hours.

No, his last year in Japan he only covered 47 mares. Ballena Vista then bought him, I think hoping he would be popular in California. When he wasn't, Ballena Vista then must have contacted his racing connections and said he was for sale. Because Doug O'Neill bought him, not wanting him to go back overseas, then I think gave him back to the Reddams.

The cold hard truth is, he isn't a very good sire, he has 5 SWs, he does have an excellent 89% starters to foals of racing age and 73% winners to starters, but almost all of that is from his time in Japan(his first US crop is current 3yos and haven't done anything(he had 1 gelding finish 3rd in a Cal-bred 2yo stakes last year). There just aren't a lot of breeders in California anymore. In 2022, there were only ~1800 mares bred to 106 stallions standing in California, compare that to 20 years before in 2002 when ~5800 mares were bred to 409 stallions. IMO, they priced him out of the market for breeders that would have used him. 10k is the upper end of stud fees in California, only one stallion stands for more than 10k. They have some actually good regional sires that stand for prices that make them more attractive to breeders, Stay Thirsty(15k), Grazen(6k), Sir Prancealot(10k), Mr. Big(7.5k), plus others.

He talks about what drew him to join Stonestreet 18 years ago, a little behind the scenes, how much time they spend deciding the mating plans for the mares, how the operation has bloomed, etc. with fascinating little tidbits thrown in. Here’s hoping he isn’t pulling a Padua Stables, Regis Farm, Conquest Stables, etc where he spends big, only to run out of money or interest in a couple years. Big news from France this week, as the last of the Wildenstein family's bloodstock (including their related Dayton Investments and Ballymore Thoroughbreds) has been purchased by the Wertheimer brothers. The Wildenstein broodmare band dates back to families they first started cultivating in 1923. Sad to see the end of the Wildenstein era, but glad the horses are staying in France and that it seems the Wertheimers have an eye on the future.
