Of course Almond Eye is still my favorite but Liberty Island might take my top 2 spot :D

Duramente was really a super stud, what a loss :(
Almond Eye still holds three major Japanese horses' all-time records below.

1. Number of G1 wins -- 9 G1 wins
2. Record time in 2400m turf -- 2:20.6 in the 2018 Japan Cup
3. Highest life-time money earned -- JPY1,915,263,900.

Liberty Island has a long way to go to be seriously compared with Almond Eye in these respects. ;)
But, to me, the way Liberty Island won the Japanese Oaks this year was a bit more impressive than what Almond Eye showed in her Japanese Oaks in 2018 at least. :D

The sky is the limit for Liberty Island at this point and many racing fans in Japan already talk about the potential match-up between her and champion Equinox in this year's Japan Cup on November 26th.
We will have to see what Equinox does in the Takarazuka Kinen next month first and what Liberty Island does in the Shuka Sho in October, though.

If her health condition was reported fine and the turf condition at Kyoto was labelled better than ''good'', I believe that she would be sent off as either the 1/10 or the 1/5 favorite in the Shuka Sho, the final leg of the Triple Tiara in Japan.

But, personally, I'm not so obsessed with her tilt at the Shuka Sho on Oct 15h.
I do hope that her connections change their mind and send her immediately (bypassing the Shuka Sho) to the US to run in the BC Turf 2400m turf at Santa Anita on Nov 4th to BEAT THE BOYS!!!!!
It would really be something if she pointed to the BC Turf. That was the plan for Equinox, wasn't it?

Yes, that WAS the plan for Equinox, Starine.
It was reported so BEFORE he won the Dubai Sheema Classic.

https://www.thoroughbredracing.com/arti ... r-equinox/
“There are quite attractive races at home, such as the Tenno Sho (Autumn) and the Japan Cup,” said Yonemoto. “However, I think the Breeders' Cup Turf is an attractive option. It is important for him to do well here if we are to travel again but I think the Breeders' Cup would be better than the Arc, especially with the ground.”
But.... AFTER he won the Dubai Sheema Classic, his connections keep silent about his plan for the second half of this year.
And we know the fact that the Dubai Sheema Classic winner will receive a two million US dollars bonus if he/she wins the Japan Cup subsequently.
That's the way many fans in Japan now feel that Equinox is more likely to run in the Japan Cup at Tokyo on Nov 26th even if he really has a lot of options ahead of him. Last year, he won the Tenno Sho Autumn and the Arima Kinen, but he didn't run in the Japan Cup, either.

The other key point for predicting Japanese top horses itineraries is that both Equinox and Liberty Island are owned by Katsumi Yoshida and his affiliates. So the clash of the titans could be a bit less likely than it may seem to be, if Katsumi Yoshida is a great business person.
Equinox will have to be a very popular stallion standing at Shadai Stallion Station with the best possible CV.
Anyway.. let’s first see what Equinox does in the Takarazuka Kinen June 25th.
His connections will give us more hints after that!!

Liberty Island was given 120, the highest rating of all-time for the Japanese Oaks winners, by JRA handicapper!

Kitasan Black quinella will pay about 400 yen for 100 yen in Japan.

The weather is fine at Tokyo and the going will be beautifully good-to-firm today.

I guess that the winner will clock 1:22 - 1:24 for 2400m turf at Tokyo.

I know, yet I'm almost afraid to get the news though. It's rarely good when they've gone down. I was rooting for him and Dura Erede (hoping for a decent showing from Ho O Biscuits). This won't be in my top five favorite races of the year.

Yeah, not a great derby. Sol Oriens beaten by a nose after a little bit of trouble in the stretch. Dura Erede losing the rider at the start... And Skilfing collapsing.

Fandrool cut away to another race before I even heard the full order of finish, and I didn't see a horse go down. With no one on the desk at this hour, Fandrool won't be providing any updates. Hell, even when they DO have someone on the desk, they seldom give updates. :(
